A bright new star is set to invade the pop music scene – 17-year-old Charice, discovered on YouTube in 2007.

Charice may look like any other pretty teenager: stylish, confident, petite and filled with non-stop energy.  But when she opens her mouth to sing -  with a profound, rich and soaring 100 decibel voice from every inch of her 5 feet 1 inch body,  the audience quite literally gasps.

And at 13 million hits and counting on YouTube, it appears that audience is growing at a staggering pace.

Already a sensation in her native Philippines, Charice’s self-titled US debut CD is scheduled to be released on May 11th via 143/Reprise Records – the day after her 18th birthday!   Her first single, Pyramid features label mate Iyaz (who recently spent four weeks at #1 with his smash hit, Replay) and is already making waves on Top 40 radio.  Listen to the song here, and follow Charice’s journey thus far by checking out “Charice: A Star is Born” on her YouTube channel.

“Pyramid” is also available for download now on iTunes, while her upcoming album is available for pre-order on Amazon. Visit ChariceSings.com for more information and updates from this amazing new talent!

This is shaping up to be Diva Day on Strike a Chord.  First, the wonderful video by Carly Smithson and We Are the Fallen, and now more news from one of the music world’s greatest stars, Christina Aguilera.  Love her.

In addition to being a loving mom and wife, Christina Aguilera has been working on her new album for the past year. She has officially announced that the record, her fourth, will be released June 8 by RCA Records.

According to ChristinaAguilera.com, the title — ‘Bionic’ — “reflects Aguilera’s ability to take her range to new levels and use her voice in various ways never heard before.”  So, how promising does that sound?

The album’s first single, ‘Not Myself Tonight,’ is a “fiercely energetic anthem” produced by Polow Da Don. The song will premiere on ChristinaAguilera.com at 6 PM EDT on March 30 and will be available on iTunes on April 13.

‘Bionic’ features songs co-written by Aguilera, along with collaborations with Sia, Tricky Stewart, Polow Da Don, Le Tigre, Hill & Switch and Ladytron. The entire album was recorded from her home studio after the birth of her son, Max.

On her Web site, Aguilera notes, “Working on this album with so many talented artists and producers that I admire was really an amazing experience. The artists I chose to work with added so many unique sonic layers to ‘Bionic.’ My intention was to step into their world and what they do combined with my own vision and sound. The results were magic.”

Can’t wait!

“I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective,” Aguilera writes. “I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don’t think anyone will expect.”

Along with the new album, Aguilera has also completed production on her first film, ‘Burlesque,’ which co-stars Cher, Stanley Tucci and Kristen Bell. It will be released this fall.

American Idol contestant, and a personal favorite, Jason Castro married his girlfriend Mandy Mayhall in a private ceremony near Dallas on Saturday.

Details of Jason Castro’s wedding haven’t been leaked, but it is said that he made it known via social networking that he married the girl of his dreams. His mother Rene Castro is also rumored to have leaked photographs of the wedding via a social networking site. It is said that the couple left quickly for their honeymoon.

Jason Castro’s The Love Uncompromised EP will be released digitally on January 12, and he is scheduled to start touring later this month. Busy January for Jason, right?  I’ll post about his EP as soon as I get the details.

Apparently Jason proposed to Mandy Mayhall while the two were dressed as Beauty and the Beast for Halloween. How cool is that? Their engagement was leaked in November – via a social networking site.

Jason was the fourth finalist during season 7.

Daughtry

Chris Daughtry and his red hot band Daughtry are re-releasing their debut album on Sept. 9 and it should be something really special.

There are bonus tracks on the re-release, including Daughtry’s eagerly awaited cover of Foreigner’s Feels Like The First Time, and acoustic versions of Home, Feels Like Tonight, What About Now and It’s Not Over. The original disc, issued in 2006, has sold an incredible 4.2 million copies in the US alone. I’m not surprised, really, this is one amazing cd. Those of us who have believed in Chris since his audition on AI knew he’d set the music world on fire. We. Were. Right.

In July, on their official website, Chris said, “Some amazing songs have been written over the past 6-7 weeks. Between me, the guys, and some great writers we’ve been working with, I think we have some GREAT stuff! It’s been an awesome process. We wrote songs together as a band which was really cool. We also wrote with some guys that really contributed to what we do and helped us along with our process.”

From the Website:

The expanded CD/DVD version of the group’s self-titled debut features the album’s original 12 songs along with four bonus tracks on CD—including acoustic performances of “Home,” recorded in the studio, and “What About Now,” recorded earlier this year on Idol Gives Back. Making its debut on this collection is DAUGHTRY’s cover of the Foreigner classic, “Feels Like The First Time.”

The bonus DVD contains videos for all five of the singles from DAUGHTRY, live performances and exclusive interviews with the band as they tell stories about the DAUGHTRY’S meteoric rise. Just like the album, the accompanying booklet has been expanded as well with photos from the road.

While DAUGHTRY gives back to its fans with the deluxe version of its debut, the band gives back to charity with a new video for its latest single “What About Now.” An active supporter of charity organizations from the start, the band will donate proceeds from the video to the following groups: Action Sports Environmental Coalition; Amnesty International; Charity: Water; Doctors Without Borders; Homeboy Industries; Insight Prison Project; Keep a Child Alive; Love, Light and Melody; Room to Read; Seacology; Surfaid International; and Urban Compass.

Amazing! I LOVE to support bands and artists that actually care about the world around them. I’m sick of the divas and power trippers. I know you’ll snatch up the re-release as quickly as I will. Don’t forget the date: September 9th!

Politically Speaking

Daughtry, Everclear and up-and-comers Flobots will appear at the Democratic convention on Aug. 26, as part of the Grammy Foundation’s “Rock the Conventions.”
The band is actually planning a series of appearances at both the Democratic and Republican national conventions in support of the ONE Campaign, which raises awareness about global poverty, hunter and disease.

On August 31st, they’ll perform a benefit show for ONE in Madison, Wisconsin. And on September 3rd, they’ll appear at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis.
