Encourages Wounded Soldiers to Rock On!

I’d love to link to an article written by the very talented and courageous Rick Allen, drummer for one of my personal all-time favorite bands, Def Leppard. Rick Allen wrote the article for Guideposts magazine.

After losing his arm in a car crash the USO contacted Rick to speak to wounded soldiers. Rick went on to volunteer with the Wounded Warrior Project, a group dedicated to helping injured veterans heal both physically and mentally. Rick leads Drum Circles, a rhythm-based group therapy and uses his experience to inspire wounded soldiers.

“From my own experience, I’ve learned that the human spirit needs only a spark to be reignited after a loss. Helping to find that spark for these soldiers has been one of the greatest honors of my life.” – Rick Allen

Justin Timberlake has had a lot of success in Hollywood.  The mulit-talented star has all but proved he can do everything and do it well. But his fans have been anxiously awaiting news of Timberlake returning to the recording studio.

Finally, word is that the superstar is about to make his long-awaited return to music.

“I’m planning to spend some time in the studio this summer,” the 30-year-old singer-turned-actor revealed to Entertainment Weekly.

Can you believe that FutureSex/LoveSounds was released in 2006? I guess it has been as long as it feels.  Timberlake, reportedly, is making sure he brings something new to his third solo project.

“I feel like I’m always writing music and working on songs, but to make an album, you have to find a group of songs that speak to something that might not be on the radio currently and make sense for you personally.”

He added, “It’s right around the corner, I think.”

Norah Jones to Release New Album

On November 16th, Norah Jones will release …Featuring, an album of the multi-platinum selling, multi-Grammy Award winning singer Norah Jones’ musical collaborations from the past decade. The 18 songs on the album include duets with 21st century icons OutKast, Q-Tip, and Talib Kweli

“A lot of the people on this record are people I’ve worshiped since I was a kid, and some of them are younger and more my contemporaries,” says Norah. “Even though the musicians are so varied, the vibe of the songs makes sense when we put them all together.” These collaborations reveal Jones’ astonishing musical versatility, from jazz to country, hip hop to rock. Songs on the album range from classics recorded by Ray Charles, to new material by such innovators as Q-Tip.

The tracks on …Featuring span her entire career, from one of her earliest recording sessions with guitarist Charlie Hunter in 2001 to her most recent performance, a song called “Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John” that she cut with indie rock legends Belle and Sebastian, which will also appear on their new album. Multi-platinum-selling, Grammy-winning global superstar, actress, philanthropist and recent Canadian “Walk of Fame” inductee, Nelly Furtado, will celebrate her first 10 years of recording with her first greatest hits compilation, The Best Of Nelly Furtado (Geffen Records).  The album, to be released November 16th, features #1 Pop smashes, collaborations and three previously unreleased recordings and will be available in standard and double-disc deluxe editions.

Of the previously unreleased recordings, “Night Is Young,” the album’s first single, was co-produced by Salaam Remi (Nas, The Fugees, Amy Winehouse) and Staybent Krunk-A-Delic, and co-written by Nelly Furtado.  Producer Remi and Furtado also co-wrote “Girlfriend” while “Stars,” was produced by Lester Mendez who co-wrote the track with Furtado.

The Best Of Nelly Furtado looks back at a simply sensational and genuinely global first decade for the acclaimed Canadian-born singer-songwriter of Portuguese heritage.  She has won and/or been nominated for seven Grammy awards, has a BRIT Award win, and has been awarded numerous Junos (Canada’s equivalent of the Grammy), including Album Of The Year for Loose as well as an MTV Europe Music Award.  Furthermore, she has been nominated for a handful of Billboard Latin Music Awards and a Grammy for her groundbreaking 2009 album Mi Plan that further solidifies her vibrant and successful career as a dual language superstar.  Embracing different cultures, musical styles and even languages, Nelly Furtado has helped define musical diversity for a new generation.

Brendan James Make an Impressive Debut with Sophomore Effort

The self-titled sophomore effort by Brendan James debuted on Decca and landed at #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart, and remained in the Top 15 Overall Albums amongst artists such as Justin Bieber, Brandon Flowers, Kings of Leon and Sara Bareilles. Brendan James also debuted this week in the Top 100 on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart at #92. To coincide with the album release, Brendan continues his stint on the road with new dates supporting popular pop band Parachute and Grammy-winning singer Paula Cole. OneRepublic Secrets Video and Tour Dates

OneRepublic and Maroon 5 BOTH?  Together? At the same time? In the same place? That sounds almost too good to be true, doesn’t it? Yet…..

OneRepublic is gearing up to tour this fall with friends Maroon 5 on a thirteen city trek.

The band will perform “Secrets” on Live with Regis and Kelly when they broadcast from Price Edward Island on July 15th. “Secrets” debuted on the Top 40 radio chart at #37.

OneRepublic was also just nominated for a Teen Choice Award for “All The Right Moves” in the category ‘Choice Music: Rock Track.’  Fans can vote for OneRepublic now at www.teenchoiceawards.com. The Teen Choice Awards will air on Fox August 9th.

In 2007, after seven years together as a band, OneRepublic took the world by storm with their debut release Dreaming Out Loud. The album included the smash first single “Apologize” which shattered digital sales and airplay records worldwide, and along with second single “Stop And Stare” propelled the album to platinum plus sales.  Their sophomore set Waking Up was released in November and first single “All The Right Moves” was a Top 40 and Hot AC radio hit and has sold over 1.5 million units to date!

Beautiful and vivacious Katy Perry is set to be the first ever musical artist to participate in the YouTube moderator platform. Previous moderators include President Obama and James Cameron.

Fans can log in to YouTube and submit text and video questions on Katy’s page. The best will rise to the top via voting and Katy will return later this month to answer the most popular submissions. Check out her personal video announcing the event here.

The Maine Plan 24 Hour Live Streaming Event For Release

Sire/Action Theory Records artists The Maine will be releasing their major label debut Black & White on July 13, 2010.   The Howard Benson-produced Black & White is the follow-up to their 2008 Fearless Records release Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop.
