Not that it would seem like a possible scenario anyway, Leona Lewis has vowed that she will not become another Amy Winehouse (24). The beautiful British singer and songwriter admitted that she admires Amy’s musical talents, but would definitely avoid the path she has taken. Wise, that. According to Leona (23), having a strong and supportive family is one way of helping her keep her feet on the ground.
“Amy is so talented. But a performer’s privacy is taken away. The media are always there,” Daily Star quoted her as saying. “You can’t make your mistakes in private. I have the advantage of a great support structure. I get honest opinions from family and friends. They aren’t always telling me what I want to hear, but the truth helps keep my head straight,” she said
Leona told Parade Magazine that she (understandably) is honored to be compared to legendary divas Whitney Houston (44) and Mariah Carey (38). “It’s exceedingly gratifying because they’re so great,” she added.
Leona Lewis was the winner of Simon Cowell’s British version of American Idol, “X Factor,” and now fans in the USA have embraced the British beauty with open arms.
Leona Lewis’ debut album, “Spirit,” and her hit single, “Bleeding Love” are setting records left and right – and I’m sure they’ve only just begun. According to Billboard, this is the first time in music history that a British female artist has debuted at the top of the Billboard Top 200, AND it’s the first time that a British artist has debuted in the top spot with a debut album.
Miss Leona Lewis also has the best-selling debut by a female solo artist since the American’s own Idol, Carrie Underwood, with her first album in 2005.

Not long ago I posted something to the effect of never sing a song that Whitney Houston has sung – that to do so was just setting yourself up for failure, ridicule, or both (or something like that).
It appears that I sould have said UNLESS your name is Leona Lewis, in which case you can sing anything in the world that anyone in the world has ever sung, and blow everyone in the world away.
