When Johnny Depp  won the People’s Choice Award for ‘Favorite Movie Actor,’ he accepted the trophy from Taylor Swift.

Raising the prize in Taylor Swift’s direction, he said: “My daughter said that if I didn’t say hi to you I’d be in big trouble. So hi from my daughter.”

The actor, who is father to daughter Lily Rose and son Jack, went on to describe the award as a “stupefying” honour, adding: “If it wasn’t (for the fans) none of us would be here.”

Taylor Swift won an award of her own for ‘Favorite Country Artist’. She later tweeted: “Thank you SO much for the Peoples Choice Award! It’s sitting here all sparkly in my hotel room. I love you guys.”

The lovely country star is one of the most gracious, down-to-earth and fan-friendly stars ever, so it’s always a great treat to see her win anything and everything.

Taylor Swift Feels the NEEDTOBREATHE

Trust Me, You're Going to Feel this Band Too

in NEEDTOBREATHE

Taylor Swift is a girl who knows what she likes and calls her own shots – one of the things that her fans love most about her. She caught many people off guard when she announced that rock band NEEDTOBREATHE would be a featured artist on her Speak Now tour.

NEEDTOBREATHE has been added as a featured artist to the North American dates of Taylor Swift’s already quick-selling Speak Now Tour.

“It means a lot to us that Taylor hand-picked us for her Speak Now tour,” NEEDTOBREATHE guitarist and co-songwriter Bo Rinehart says. “Everyone knows she has amazing fans, and we thrive on performing live, especially in front of new audiences.”

NEEDTOBREATHE will join the SPEAK NOW Tour on May 27th in Omaha, Neb., and will be featured on all shows in the United States and Canada.

Taylor Swift Tickets for the following shows of the TAYLOR SWIFT SPEAK NOW WORLD TOUR 2011 go on sale this week:

June 25 Foxborough, Massachusetts Gillette Stadium
July 9 & 10 Atlanta, Georgia Philips Arena
July 14 Montreal, Quebec Bell Centre
July 15 & 16 Toronto, Ontario Air Canada Centre
August 23 & 24 Los Angeles, California Staples Center
September 1 & 2 San Jose, California HP Pavilion
September 3 Sacramento, California ARCO Arena

Below is a NEEDTOBREATHE video, Something Beautiful. In case you’re unfamiliar with them, I wanted you to hear just how outstanding their music is.

This band is super special and I can definitely see why Taylor added them to her show. The girl has outstanding taste! NEEDTOBREATHE has their own sound, to be sure, but I detect some influence from great Southern rock bands of the past as well as a great deal of blues influence.

Frankly, I love them and plan to order their cds asap. There are two blatant ways to tell how much I like an artist:

  1. I buy their CDs – even though music can be accessed online all day and night long.  When I LOVE an artist, I want their CDs as well.
  2. I add them to the list of categories on my music blog.

NEEDTOBREATHE now has their own category and I’ll soon have more CDs. Please listen to these guys – they’re wonderful, I can’t stress that enough!

Country Music Stars on TV Thanksgiving Day

Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Gloriana

by Joi

in Carrie Underwood, Country Music, Sugarland, Taylor Swift

You’ll be able to catch your favorite country music stars on television without any trouble this Thanksgiving. Country music is as hot as ever right now and the stars are turning up everywhere.

Catch Sugarland on Thursday night at 8 ET when they perform at the CNN Heroes special. The special honors people who are making a positive difference in the world.

Keith Urban will perform during the halftime show of the Dallas Cowboys vs the New Orleans Saints. The seven-minute performance will be carried live on Fox. The performance will also serve as the kick-off to the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Cameras will actually be following Keith Urban around the entire time he’s in Dallas. It’ll be used as a special on the NFL network on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. ET. Keith Urban: Halftime in Real Time will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to put on such a massive show in such a short amount of time.

Carrie Underwood will perform on CBS’s coverage of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Thursday morning, too. Gloriana will also perform during the parade on NBC.

As for Thanksgiving night, you won’t want to miss Taylor Swift’s 1 hour special on NBC.

Check your local listings for times for each of these performances.

Johnny Cash Video: I Walk the Line

By a Very, Very, Very Young Johnny Cash!

by Joi

in Country Music, Music Videos

Just look how young Johnny Cash was in the video above – what a cutie he was!

Johnny Cash was actually only 23 years old in this video. There’s really something to be said for those who are (and were) talented enough that they could sing LIVE and make it sound just like it did on the radio.

I only hope this doesn’t completely become a memory.

Country Music’s sweetheart Taylor Swift appeared on NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night ((November 22, 2010) to promote her Thanksgiving special. She got quite a surprise from another guest, comedian Dane Cook.

After his interview, Dane Cook (one of the funniest stand up comedians to ever… well, stand up) stripped off his shirt to reveal a tattoo of Swift’s face on his chest and he then performed a song for her with his guitar after admitting he was a big fan.

His lyrics included: ‘Taylor Swift, you’re a gift. Give me a lift to your heart, beating inside my chest, I did my best. Download it now.

‘Now back to you, Taylor Swift, stand up girl, take a bow. Show us that smile, don’t be shy, I hope her fans encourage her now. Come on everybody!

‘We love you Taylor, Taylor, Taylor Swift!’”

Taylor stood up and took a bow as the audience applauded Dane Cook’s performance… and her priceless reaction.

Look out, below! Here comes a personal opinion rant. I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan. Love her. I think she isn’t just “good for Country Music,” I think she’s “good for music.” I’ll take it even further – I think she’s GREAT for the music industry and is exactly what we need. She’s refreshing, honest, sincere, talented, and beautiful inside and out.

Her fans don’t have to worry about her letting them down or embarrassing them with stupid antics (she reminds me of Beyonce in that way – their fans know they have class and aren’t going to be idiots).

Taylor also reminds me of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, Duke, New York Yankees, Angelina Jolie, and Peyton Manning. Winners who sometimes have people hate them… simply because they’re winners! Personally I can’t understand that one.

I love winners!

If people would learn more about Taylor Swift, listen to her music, and really get to know what she stands for – I think it’d be impossible to NOT be a fan. Unless of course it all goes back to the hating winners thing…. in which case I’d have to say, “Just go find some losers to hang out with then.”

I told you to watch out below.

Taylor Swift’s Thanksgiving Special

Taylor’s hour-long concert special will air on NBC Thanksgiving night at 8 p.m. ET.  Taylor will  perform in Central Park and on top of a tour bus on Hollywood Boulevard. She’ll do nine songs from her new album Speak Now: “Mine,” “Sparks Fly,” “Story of Us,” “Long Live,” “Haunted,” “Mean,” “Back to December,” “Enchanted,” and the title track.

We’ll also get behind-the-scenes footage of her recording and promoting Speak Now.

Fun, catchy, hugely popular… would you expect anything else from Sugarland? I didn’t think so.

Sugarland has another song hit and wildly popular video on their sticky little hands with Stuck Like Glue. I gotta say, I love the haircut and I’m digging the eye makeup! And the dance moves? Killer.

It seems like everyone (most certainly including me) loves Lady Antebellum – country music fans, pop music fans. If you have any taste whatsoever in great music, liking Lady Antebellum is a given.

Below is an AOL Session of Lady Antebellum performing their monster hit Need You Now. Outstanding!
