Leona Lewis was the winner of Simon Cowell’s British version of American Idol, “X Factor,” and now fans in the USA have embraced the British beauty with open arms.
Leona Lewis’ debut album, “Spirit,” and her hit single, “Bleeding Love” are setting records left and right – and I’m sure they’ve only just begun. According to Billboard, this is the first time in music history that a British female artist has debuted at the top of the Billboard Top 200, AND it’s the first time that a British artist has debuted in the top spot with a debut album.
Miss Leona Lewis also has the best-selling debut by a female solo artist since the American’s own Idol, Carrie Underwood, with her first album in 2005.

The British beauty also has the distinction of having the biggest digital album sales for a new artist! Plus: “Bleeding Love” has racked up over a million downloads. Not bad. Not bad t’all.
“What Leona has achieved is simply incredible. This is the hardest market to crack and for her debut album to go in at number 1 is unbelievable,” Simon Cowell said a statement to Access Hollywood.
