Kelly Clarkson Proves She’s Miss Independent, Indeed!

by staff on June 14, 2007

With just two weeks to go before the release of her much-anticipated (and recently leaked) third album, My December, Kelly Clarkson fired her management team Monday night (June 11). Reportedly, internal bickering between SonyBMG and Kelly Clarkson over hersongwriting and direction of My December led to the split.

The ex-management team issued a statement on June 12 saying, ”Kelly Clarkson is an enormously talented artist. We are pleased to have served as her managers during her well-deserved rise to stardom and are proud of the role we played in backing her creative choices. We believed in Kelly from the day we met her and believe in her now. We have only the best wishes and hopes for her in the future.”

The bickering has already affected radio play of ”Never Again.” It was getting great response on radio stations, but has kind of stalled on the charts lately. Experts are also predicting that her cd will flop and flop big.
Earlier this year, Kelly said, ”I know it’s not going to do what Breakaway did, ’cause it’s not as mainstream. I get that. Some of the songs are not what 10-year-olds are probably going to listen to.”
Most agree that the fighting between Clive Davis (head of her label) and her management team will hurt sales. When the people who are supposed to stand behind you are doing so with knives in their hands - things get ugly fast!

I don’t mean to sound nasty or anything, but Clive Davis is, like 345 years old, and he’s trying to tell Kelly what young people today want to listen to? I think she has a pretty good idea! Her music and her songs are about strength - the same can be said for Pink’s music, Beyonce’s, Eve’s, Sheryl Crowe’s, Avril’s, and Christina’s. There’s nothing wrong with strength….it seems though, sometimes, the males in the biz panic over female singers showing this side of themselves. They’d rather them make weak, wimpy little songs, I guess.
Some are even suggesting that this drama may keep her cd away from the public even longer. One source suggests that the album, if it hasn’t made its way to the pressing plant yet, may actually get shelved so that Clarkson and Clive Davis, can reconsider some of the tracks. ”It’s not too late,” says the source. ”The label was supportive of Kelly in terms of putting the song out, but this album can’t flop. She needs to get the right advice and counsel.”

For Kelly’s sake - and the sake of future artists who have the guts to do it their way - I hope this cd is a monster hit.
