Kat McPhee Disrespected AGAIN

by staff on June 17, 2007

Those of us who are Katharine McPhee fans always have a fight on our hands! Not because of her, of course - she’s as flawless as her face. It’s the way others treat her - like AI having every other person in the top 4 from last year on the show BUT her. Now a radio DJ is getting prissy and pissy.

Kat was interviewed by an intern named Ally on Hot 99.5’s The Kane Morning Show. The interview was supposed to be in the studio and the station had agreed that McPhee wouldn’t be asked any personal questions. When Katharine didn’t show up at the studio — handlers explained that her flight had been delayed. One of the first questions the intern asked the 23-year-old singer was about her 42-year-old boyfriend. This Ally person apparently didn’t have a clue what personal meant. She asked if having a boyfriend who was so much older hurt or helped the relationship. Not only is it a personal question, it’s a stone cold stupid question!!! Obviously irritated, Kat said she didn’t want to discuss her private life and the interview sucked wind from there.

Angry fans deluged Kane with hate mail. “Maybe she should have been nicer and been live as she promised,” the coolness that is Kane responded.

The angry calls and e-mails kept coming (YES!!!), and Coolness shot back a lengthy response. “I’m getting increasingly frustrated by e-mails from McPhee fans that don’t know the whole story and are writing me angry e-mails.” He further scolded, “It makes Kat look bad when ever other word in your e-mail about how you thought we didn’t handle the interview professionally starts with an f—.”

How. For. The. Love. Of. God. Does having passionate fans who are willing to fight for you make a singer look bad?

Moron.

When reminded of the NO PERSONAL QUESTIONS agreement, he had a great response: “Slam us, go-head,” Kane wrote. “We agreed to have her on; we followed the rules. They didn’t tell the truth. Kat could have had a little more fun with Ally. She could have said, ‘You guys know you’re not supposed to ask me personal questions. What’s wrong with you?’ Rather, she just got mad.”

“They didn’t tell the truth”????

“We followed the rules”????

“…..she just got mad”????

How amazing would it be if American Idol came to her defense and said that she’s either given an on air apology or they’ll do all they can to make sure Idols never appear on their show again? Yeah, I know it’ll never happen….but how cool would it be?

Kat fans might take a little less ribbing if they stopped making ridiculous statements like “Katharine is as flawless as her face.” Because, no, she’s not. She’s a human being, which means that by definition, she’s not flawless. And frankly, to many, she comes off as self-absorbed, slightly mean-spirited, and not particularly intelligent. A pronouncement like “Katharine is flawless” just makes you seem like a twelve-year-old with an “omg Katharine is perfect because she’s sooooo pretty!” mentality, when that probably doesn’t describe you at all. You probably really are a fan of her voice and her personality, and that’s great. But girlfriend certainly ain’t flawless, and I’m betting that on some level you realize that, and aren’t going to fire back with an “omg kat is perfect in every way, ur just a jellus hater!” post.

And yes, having defensive fans DOES make an artist look bad. Taylor Hicks has suffered greatly in the press, partly because for every review that was less than glowing about him, his more illiterate and profane fans took to waging E-mail campaigns. Or, maybe you think that he deserves it because, ew, he has gray hair and looks old. I hope that’s not your thinking at all.

1. I’m terribly sorry you took exception with my choice of the word flawless. As a Christian, I’m more than a little aware that no human is without flaws. I choose, however, to look more for positives than negatives, as I am not God.

2. SHE comes across as slightly mean spirited? The people who can’t stand for nice things to be said about her are the ones who are mean spirited. Why they just won’t leave her alone is beyond me. You generally won’t find Kat fans on Pro Taylor Hicks forums or posts throwing stones at him.

Better things to do, and all that.

3. I never said anything about Taylor’s looks. And I’m sorry you did. I don’t see anything wrong with his looks - he’s a nice looking guy. He’s always dressed nicely, and is well put together, and distinguished-looking. Downright handsome. Couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, but he’d look good trying to do so. Again, I never said a word about his hair. Nothing wrong with it. I also never did say or would say that he looks old. Do you really think so? I don’t think he does. He looks his age, his hair is simply a different color than other young men his age. Big. Fat. Deal.

For one thing, I’m above that. For another thing…There Is Nothing Wrong With Taylor’s Hair. He looks perfectly fine - it’s his singing I would run away from, not his hair.

4. Katharine doesn’t come across as slightly unintelligent or mean or self-absorbed. People who hate her for whatever reasons are just trying to find something to justify that hatred. There is, however, no justification for hatred - so, maybe they should just give up and try to do something positive with their time.

Thanks for leaving a comment - I love comments and opinions, whether I totally agree or totally disagree with them.

I hope you have a deliciously fun day. - Joi
