I thought the guys had a great night – much better than the girls did the night before.
But then it happened – Chris went and pulled a Bo Bice thing on all of them. Everyone looked really, really, really good, until he performed – then he cut a few reallys off of their good! Bo did it to ‘em last year – Chris has it covered this year.
Before hewqqqqqqhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyj (My cat, Bo – Yeah, named after THAT Bo – just stepped on the keyboard…showing his Chris love. wqqqqqqhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyj means, “Damn, that cat can rock!”)
As I was saying, before he took the stage, I kept thinking how there were too many great guys – and how amazing they all sounded. I was really impressed with Elliot, Sway, Bucky, Ace, David, Will, Gedeon and Taylor. But, at the end….after Chris – as they were showing the clips of the other guys, I didn’t feel quite as strongly about their performances. I do think Elliot and Gedeon had amazing nights, and I loved David’s performance. Bucky and Ace are two of my very favorites and they were incredible, I just didn’t like the songs they did this time as well as the last time.
Sway, in NO way deserved the judges comments. I thought he did a great job. How can they applaud Kevin then turn around and say the things they do to Sway, David and Will?! The things they were ragging on David for were the things they LOVED in auditions. It’s the same boy, same voice – and there’s nothing wrong with either of them!
I do agree with what the judges are always saying about song selection, and about taking chances. I think song selection is the thing that did Nikko in last year and not taking chances sealed LaToya’s fate the year before. I can’t really blame anyone, though, I’d want to play it safe in front of millions of people – not to mention Simon.
Thanks be to the Idol gods that we have people like Chris, Bo, Ace, Bucky, and Constantine, who pretty much live on the edge while performing. ’tis an amazing thing to behold!
