Katy Perry: The Next Big Thing?

Unless you’ve been living in a cave or on a Country Music station, you’ve heard Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl.” When I first heard the song, I thought it was Amy Winehouse. But I’d heard all of her stuff and knew she’d never done a song about kissing a girl. Besides, a few lines into the song I realized it wasn’t Amy.
I listened to the end for the DJ to give me the name, but all he said was, “This girl’s getting a lot of comparisons to Amy Winehouse!” Then he went into details about the weather.
Thanks, guy.
When I got home, I jumped on GOOGLE and soon found out what I needed to know. That was a few weeks ago and, of course, by now everyone knows Katy.
On his website, Perez Hilton wrote: “If Avril Lavigne were actually talented, pretty, and had an appealing personality, she’d be Katy Perry. She’s got the whole package!” Ouch.
Katy has said, “I don’t care who I’m compared to as long as people listen to the music. Usually I find it funny to say I’m like a skinnier version of Lily Allen and a fatter version of Amy Winehouse. It always renders a good chuckle.”
Katy’s gaining a monstrous following - it’ll be interesting to see where this all goes. She very well be the next big thing.

The music industry has gone mad. FIrst, we had Miley Cyrus posing in a come hither type pose for a Vanity Fair cover - a pose that is decidedly inappropriate for a 15 year old. Accusations are flying around everywhere about who’s to blame, but I’m wondering why there’s any question. Everyone’s to blame. Miley, the photographer, the magazine that’s printing the picture and benefiting from publicity resulting from exploiting a child, and anyone that was on the set when she was being fitted for a sheet. They’re all to blame and I hope people will let their disgust be known by never buying the magazine again.
It tanked it’s reputation.
Marie Osmond has taken it upon herself to point her finger at Miley’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus. According to People Magazine, Billy Ray wasn’t on set while those pictures were being taken and everyone close to the family says that he wouldn’t have allowed them.
Another star who’s pointing fingers and throwing out barbs is John Rich. He stated that American Idol’s ratings were ”going down the toilet” because (in his words) the show’s scripted. I don’t think it’s exactly scripted - but I DO know they push certain contestants down our throats. (More about David Archuleta later.)
Speaking of Paula, he weighed in on a big blunder that recently had all of us scratching our heads:
“‘American Idol’ infuriates me as an artist,” he told reporters. “They’re being fake about it. When you can’t make a cognizant comment about someone’s performance and you’re commenting on something that happened the day before, why don’t you just walk up on stage and slap them right across the face while you’re at it? As an artist, I would just flip them the bird and walk off the stage. She wasn’t even paying attention to what was going on.”
I have no idea where Paula’s head was that night, but his criticism is pretty unfair. She cares a lot about the contestants and I’ve never heard of anyone having a negative thing to say about her. All contestants, past and present, always talk about how sweet she is, how much she tries to help them, etc.
Granted, this year, the obvious propping of Archuleta and the unnecessary bashing of Jason Castro has turned even a die hard fan like me off. In fact, if David Cook weren’t still in the race, I’d turn the show off and never turn it on again. It was THAT uncomfortable to watch how they treated Jason. It’s kids like him that allow the three judges to even have this show and lifestyle. To belittle him and disrespect him like that was uncalled for. We all knew they wanted him out of the way for DA - just like they wanted Michael Johns and Carly Smithson out of his way. Why does this show NEVER want the most talented people to be the last ones standing?!?!
I’ve been a loyal fan of AI for years now - to the point of dropping EVERYTHING when it comes on. I literally count the weeks until it returns when it’s on hiatus. But this season has me thinking that next season will find me with better things to do. I’ve grown tired of watching the show prop their favorites at superior singers’ expense. When Simon stated that Archuleta “crushed” the competition, I spewed my Diet Dr. Pepper everywhere. I’m not saying DA doesn’t have a really good voice - he does. But, come on, he most certainly didn’t crush David Cook! No way, never, nu uh.
Now the really weird news: David Archleta (a.k.a. The Chosen One) apparently has a stage father that puts all stage mothers to shame. The guy must be a real ass!
From TMZ: “Idol” sources tell TMZ Jeff has been a complete pain in the ass, interfering with the entire production. He has badgered producers, the band, vocal coaches and even other contestants. The final straw came this week, when Jeff wanted to change the lyrics to David’s first song, “Stand By Me.” Jeff insisted on adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s hit, “Beautiful Girls.” Producers sent him an e-mail telling him the lyrics could not be changed. They were beyond pissed when David sang the song with Kingston’s lyrics during the live show.
We’re told by changing the lyrics, it created problems with the song’s publisher and cost “A.I.” a lot of money.
Jeff was ordered to sit with “A.I.” lawyers on Wednesday, who told him he was “banned from being in the rooms where David was learning or rehearsing his songs.” It’s “Idol’s” position, since David is 17, he does not need a guardian — just a teacher. Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show but he’s 86′d from anything backstage. Sources say the other contestants were fed up with Jeff and didn’t want him near them. Now they have their wish.
All in all, sources say Jeff is the stage dad from hell. BTW, he was banned on the set when David did “Star Search” a few years back.
Poor kid! Dad needs to cool his heels before his son tells him to use them.
Amy Winehouse Backs Out of Bond

What a total, freakin’ shame that Amy Winehouse can’t somehow get it together.
I couldn’t like her music any better if my Starbucks card depended on it and I love her style almost as much. The hair, the crazy makeup, she’s nothing if not entertaining. When she first apperared on the radar I thought she was an off beat, delicious breath of fresh air - air that, unfortunately, got polluted before any of us even knew what happened.
According to E Online, Amy has backed out of what would have been something that would have been amazing. Her producer, Mark Ronson, told SkyNews that she has stopped working on the new theme song for the latest 007 flick. Her voice was MADE for a Bond soundtrack and it would have brought all of her fans to their knees. I’m most definitely a fan of her talent, but I’m losing patience with her decisions.
Come on, girl, get it together!
Her producer, who’s patience has probably been lost in a vast wilderness far longer than mine, went on to spill more bad news. He said Amy Winehouse is “not ready to record any music” and that it’s going to take “some miracle of science” to finish the two tracks for the upcoming Quantam of Solace.
Amy’s most recent brush with the law found her cooling her stylish heels in jail overnight after slapping a guy in a bar. Wow…. a guy got slapped in a bar, who’d have thought? And she’s, what, probably about 90 pounds wet? Wow, he must’ve seen his life flash before his eyes.
I know, I know… She has problems. But, frankly it doesn’t seem to me like anyone’s helping her any. Flippin’ shame about the Bond soundtrack.

Leona Lewis was the winner of Simon Cowell’s British version of American Idol, “X Factor,” and now fans in the USA have embraced the British beauty with open arms.
Leona Lewis’ debut album, “Spirit,” and her hit single, “Bleeding Love” are setting records left and right - and I’m sure they’ve only just begun. According to Billboard, this is the first time in music history that a British female artist has debuted at the top of the Billboard Top 200, AND it’s the first time that a British artist has debuted in the top spot with a debut album.
Miss Leona Lewis also has the best-selling debut by a female solo artist since the American’s own Idol, Carrie Underwood, with her first album in 2005.

Leona Lewis Defies All Logic and Reason

Not long ago I posted something to the effect of never sing a song that Whitney Houston has sung - that to do so was just setting yourself up for failure, ridicule, or both (or something like that).
It appears that I sould have said UNLESS your name is Leona Lewis, in which case you can sing anything in the world that anyone in the world has ever sung, and blow everyone in the world away.

Re-Decorating the Joint!

We’re redoing the entire blog, so things will be a red hot mess for a day or so. I apologize profusely for the eye sore, but the end results will be SO WORTH IT.

- Adding pictures and thumbnails will be easier with this blog theme, so there’ll be more pictures than ever before.
- Updates will come more often as well. I hated the last set up so much, updating was a pain in the ….yeah…. but it’s all good now. So watch for and expect daily updates - several a day when the celebs are really mixing things up.

Amy Winehouse Faces a Skin Condition

As if the poor gal didn’t have a million and two other things to fret over, Amy Winehouse has now been diagnosed with a skin disease, impetigo, that has left her with bumps all over her face. The condition is highly contagious and can spread to other parts of Amy’s body as well as to other people.
She’s (ACK!) been given a prescription for the condition.
A friend of Amy’s told PEOPLE, “She’s fine. She’s not hiding away. She’s never been one to care what people think.” Obvious, that.

Last night’s Grammy’s were actually really good. Most award shows fall flat, but whoever put last night’s show together did a great job. The diversity was the best thing. There was pretty much something for everyone. Kanye’s songs, Amy Winehouse’s performances, the Beatle’s salute, and Beyonce/Tina Turner were my personal favorites.
Can you believe Herbie Hancock won album of the year? He basically pulled it right out from under a Kanye and Amy Winehouse tie, which is what I was pretty much demanding.
If you haven’t bought these two artist’s latest cds, do it now. Not only are they amazing works, they’re sure to become legendary as two of the greatest albums ever made. I’ve always been a huge, huge fan of Kanye’s and I’ve recently become a really big fan of Amy’s as well. Some people may not like everything they do or say - but no one can ignore them or deny their talent.
Sure, Kanye loves himself some Kanye - but, personally I think that makes him who he is. The greatest entertainers and athletes in the world believe themselves to be. It all starts between the ears, first, you know. Believe it….then become it.
He’s outspoken, that’s a given, but if you listen to him - he makes a great deal of sense. The man’s very smart and, in spite of how he may come across at times, he has a great deal of love in his heart.
That was certainly apparent in his tribute to his mom last night. It was beautiful and I cried right through every word of the song. I’m sure it took a lot of strength for him to get through it - ironically, strength that he got from his much beloved mother.
I was so glad they stopped the music during his acceptance speech when he started talking about his mother. I loved that he wasn’t about to let a little tacky elevator music stop him from what he wanted to say!
Amy Winehouse, of course, turns many people off with her personal life. But, that’s the thing - it’s her personal life. It shouldn’t affect how people perceive her as an artist. She has personal problems and demons that she has to wrestle. Hopefully she has a strong support system and people who love her and want to help her get well.
If she gets the help she needs, she’ll be one of the greatest, most entertaining artists ever. When she performs, she’s one of those artists you can’t take your eyes off of. Kind of like Cher, Tina Turner, and Cyndi Lauper - all rolled into one. She’s in my prayers. Can you imagine - having the love of your life (her Blake) sent away to jail? She seems positively lost without him.
I just hope there’s a happy ending for both of them.

Britney Spears is Under a Doctor’s Care Now

Finally! It looks like Britney’s getting the medical care she needs. She was admitted to the hospital yesterday. It’s pretty disgusting to see all of the so-called well people around her acting as badly as she is when she’s so obviously un-well. Hopefully the doctors will push all of them into the background and will give Britney the help she needs before she completely destroys, or ends, her life.
Sources at UCLA Medical Center told TMZ that Britney had been classified as “G.D.” - Gravely Disabled. That’s about as bad as it gets. It means the patient is unable to take care of basic needs, such as food, clothing or shelter. Being G.D. is actually one of the criteria forinvoluntary commitment.
Several Health care sources say that she fell into a “manic state” due to her bipolar disorder. It took longer than normal to admit her at the hospital because she was causing such a horrible scene.
She was screaming and cursing like she’s been known to do a lot. Britney even accused her mother of sleeping with her boyfriend.
At one point, she screamed, “The only reason she’s admitting me is because she wants to be alone with her boyfriend! She wants to sleep with my boyfriend!!”
Sources say that when she calmed down she talked about her sons, how much she misses them and how unfair it is that she doesn’t have them.
This is, honestly, one of the saddest stories I’ve ever seen play out. Keep Brit in your prayers - she needs them.
