Song Lyrics

Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked Lyrics by Cage the Elephant

I was walking down the street,
When out the corner of my eye
I saw a pretty little thing approaching me.
She said “I’ve never seen a man
Who looks so all alone,
Could you use a little company?
If you pay the right price
Your evening will be nice,
And you can go and send me on my way.”
I said “You’re such a sweet young thing
Why you do this to yourself?”
She looked at me and this is what she said,

“Oh, there ain’t no rest for the wicked,
Money don’t grow on trees.
I got bills to pay,
I got mouths to feed,
There ain’t nothing in this world for free.
I know I can’t slow down,
I can’t hold back,
Though you know, I wish I could.
No there ain’t no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good”.

Not even fifteen minutes later
I’m still walking down the street,
When I saw a shadow of a man creep out of sight.
Then he walks up from behind
And puts a gun up to my head,
He made it clear he wasn’t looking for a fight.
He said “Give me all you’ve got
I want your money not your life,
But if you try to make a move I won’t think twice.”
I said “You can have my cash
But first you know I got to ask
What made you want to live this kind of life?”

He said “There ain’t no rest for the wicked,
Money don’t grow on trees.
I got bills to pay,
I got mouths to feed,
There ain’t nothing in this world for free.
I know I can’t slow down,
I can’t hold back,
Though you know, I wish I could.
No there ain’t no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good”.

Now a couple hours passed
And I was sitting at my house,
The day was winding down and coming to an end.
So I turned on the TV
And flipped it over to the news,
And what I saw I almost couldn’t comprehend.
I saw a preacher man in cuffs he’d taken money from the church,
He’s got this bank account with righteous dollar bills.
But even still I can’t say much
Because I know we’re all the same,
Oh yes we’ve all got to satisfy those thrills.

“Oh, there ain’t no rest for the wicked,
Money don’t grow on trees.
We got bills to pay,
We got mouths to feed,
There ain’t nothing in this world for free.
I know we can’t slow down,
We can’t hold back,
Though you know, we wish we could.
No there ain’t no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good”

John RichEven if you don’t follow country music closely (and I can’t imagine anyone who doesn’t these days with Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Keith Urban, Big & Rich…), I know you’ve heard of the cowboy rock stars of Nashville, Big & Rich. The “rich” part of the equation is John Rich and he just might be the most out-spoken, opinionated, and blissfully talented writer in Country Music right now. Personally, I’ve been a big fan since he and “Big Kenny” strutted onto the country music map singing about saving horses and riding cowboys.

They made all of us sit up and say, “Whut? Whut?

John Rich has a solo cd coming out, Son of a Preacher Man. The title cut is about his relationship with his own dad, a preacher man. In an interview with The Boot.com, John Rich told why the title song is so close to his heart: “Imagine being the most hardcore, rock ‘n’ roll, honkeytonk singer in Nashville … the wildest kid in town. But your dad is a fire and brimstone, Bible-banging preacher. He’s never been judgmental, but I’ve never recorded a song that offended him. I’ve played him songs that he’s said, ‘Nah, I’d rather you not say that,’ so I didn’t record them. That’s how much of an impact my dad has had on me.”

He told The Boot that his partner, Kenny, was on a Mission trip to Africa and that they will be touring together.  He’s also certain there are more cds in Big & Rich’s future.  And that’s news that follows under the category Great!

One of the talents that most impresses me about John Rich is his song writing abilities.  He has written songs for Big & Rich (Lost in this Moment, Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy…), Gretchen Wilson (Redneck Woman, When I Think About Cheatin’, Here for the Party), Keith Anderson (Pickin’ Wildflowers) Cowboy Troy (If You Don’t Wanna Love Me, with Sarah Buxton), Faith Hill (Mississippi Girl, Sunshine and Summertime),  Faith Hill & Tim McGraw (Like We Never Loved at All), Jason Aldean (Hicktown, Johnny Cash), Aaron Tippin, Martina McBride, Clay Walker,  Shannon Brown (Corn Fed), James Otto, Jewel, and so on.   I’m still researching songs that he has written or co-written and I honestly can’t keep up with them all.

It blows the mind.

If you’ve watched The City on MTV, you’ve heard this amazing song – it’s the theme song and it’s absolute perfection. But when are Pussycat Dolls not absolute perfection?

Speaking of perfection, click the image at the top of the post for a much larger version. It’s a beautiful picture and makes a great wallpaper for your desktop.

Oh there’s something ’bout a man in black,
Makes me want to buy a cadillac,
Throw the top back,
And roll down to Jackson town,
I wanna be there on the stage with you,
You and I could be the next rage to,
Hear the crowd roar,
Make ‘em one more,
I’ll kick the footlights out,

I wanna love like Johnny and June,
Rings of fire burnin’ with you,
I wanna walk the line,
Walk the line,
‘Till the end of time,
I wanna love,
Love ya that much,
Cash it all in,
Give it all up,
When you’re gone,
I wanna go too,
Like Johnny and June,

I wanna hold you baby right or wrong,
Build a world around a country song,
Pray a sweet prayer,
Follow you there,
Down in history,

I wanna love like Johnny and June,
Rings of fire burnin’ with you,
I wanna walk the line,
Walk the line,
‘Till the end of time,
I wanna love,
Love ya that much,
Cash it all in,
Give it all up,
When you’re gone,
I wanna go too,
Like Johnny and June,

Like Johnny and June,
More than life itself,
No-one else,
This here is promise,
They don’t make love like that anymore,
Is that too much to be askin’ for,

I wanna love like Johnny and June,
Rings of fire burnin’ with you,
I wanna walk the line,
Walk the line,
‘Till the end of time,
I wanna love,
Love ya that much,
Cash it all in,
Give it all up,
When you’re gone,
I wanna go too,
Like Johnny and June,

Like Johnny and June,
And when we’re gone,
There’ll be no tears to cry,
Only memories of our lives,
They’ll remember, remember,
A love like that.
