We make frequent trips to the Grand Ole Opry, but in a cruel stroke of bad luck, we weren’t there on the night Crystal Bowersox made her spontaneous Grand Ole Opry debut. Music legend Vince Gill gets major “cool guy” points for giving a young artist this kind of an opportunity. If I weren’t already a huge fan of his (and the distinguishable voice that has been behind some of country music’s best songs ever), I certainly would be now.
I LOVE how important the moment was to Crystal. Her excitement and enjoyment were as beautiful as her voice.
But, like you, at least I get to watch the video!

Country Music’s sweetheart Taylor Swift appeared on NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night ((November 22, 2010) to promote her Thanksgiving special. She got quite a surprise from another guest, comedian Dane Cook.
After his interview, Dane Cook (one of the funniest stand up comedians to ever… well, stand up) stripped off his shirt to reveal a tattoo of Swift’s face on his chest and he then performed a song for her with his guitar after admitting he was a big fan.
His lyrics included: ‘Taylor Swift, you’re a gift. Give me a lift to your heart, beating inside my chest, I did my best. Download it now.
‘Now back to you, Taylor Swift, stand up girl, take a bow. Show us that smile, don’t be shy, I hope her fans encourage her now. Come on everybody!
‘We love you Taylor, Taylor, Taylor Swift!’”
Taylor stood up and took a bow as the audience applauded Dane Cook’s performance… and her priceless reaction.
Look out, below! Here comes a personal opinion rant. I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan. Love her. I think she isn’t just “good for Country Music,” I think she’s “good for music.” I’ll take it even further – I think she’s GREAT for the music industry and is exactly what we need. She’s refreshing, honest, sincere, talented, and beautiful inside and out.
Her fans don’t have to worry about her letting them down or embarrassing them with stupid antics (she reminds me of Beyonce in that way – their fans know they have class and aren’t going to be idiots).
Taylor also reminds me of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, Duke, New York Yankees, Angelina Jolie, and Peyton Manning. Winners who sometimes have people hate them… simply because they’re winners! Personally I can’t understand that one.
I love winners!
If people would learn more about Taylor Swift, listen to her music, and really get to know what she stands for – I think it’d be impossible to NOT be a fan. Unless of course it all goes back to the hating winners thing…. in which case I’d have to say, “Just go find some losers to hang out with then.”
I told you to watch out below.
Taylor’s hour-long concert special will air on NBC Thanksgiving night at 8 p.m. ET. Taylor will perform in Central Park and on top of a tour bus on Hollywood Boulevard. She’ll do nine songs from her new album Speak Now: “Mine,” “Sparks Fly,” “Story of Us,” “Long Live,” “Haunted,” “Mean,” “Back to December,” “Enchanted,” and the title track.
We’ll also get behind-the-scenes footage of her recording and promoting Speak Now.

Internationally rising star Agnes was the youngest winner of Sweden’s American Idol at 17 years old, and now only four years later her eyes on are on the USA. The rising star is currently featured on Access Hollywood‘s “On The Download” where she is called an artist to watch in 2010. Agnes has made a huge splash in the dance/club scene with her single “Release Me” and is ready for the mainstream as the song crosses over to pop radio.
“My music is pop, dance and a little bit disco,” says Agnes. “The songs on this album – it’s a lot of up-tempo songs – but the most important thing is just having good songs and good melodies. I like to debut my songs just singing to guitar accompaniment, so that people can hear the melodies.”
Read the rest of the interview here to find out about Agnes’ love for music, role models and forthcoming album release.
When I first saw pictures, I couldn’t help thinking how much Agnes reminds me somehow of a beautiful mixture of a couple of my favorite artists, Leona Lewis and Shakira. Then, I heard her amazing voice, and she kind of reminds me of them vocally as well. Given the fact that I am completely obsessed with Shakira and Leona Lewis, it’s high praise from me indeed.
I can’t even tell you how much faith I have in this impending girl’s rise to the top. To give you somewhat of an idea, I’ve already given her her own Category heading. – - – - — – - – - ->
Watch for future Agnes pictures, updates, videos, and audio. It’ll be fun watching her star shoot through the air.
Growing up in the small town of V’nersborg, Sweden, music was always an integral part of Agnes Carlsson’s life. Her career took off at the tender age of 17 as the youngest-ever Pop Idol winner (Sweden’s American Idol counterpart), triggering a string of chart successes in Sweden. As she grew up, her style evolved. She was introduced to songwriter and producer Anders Hansson in 2008 and the creative sparks began to fly as Hansson’s dance-flavored production allowed Agnes to express her drive, energy and attitude, and of course, let loose with her incredible vocals. Release Me is the result of this studio alchemy and announces the arrival of a major new talent.
Release Me was released earlier this summer, and became a pan-European smash before spreading to airwaves around the world, from South Africa to Israel to Australia. The video for Release Me has already hit well over 5 million views on YouTube.
The album Dance Love Pop is soon to be released internationally and contains smashes like On And On and Love Love Love, both already proven hits in Sweden. Through beats and ballads, the album showcases Agnes at her best.
With her infectious enthusiasm, sparkling energy and stunning vocal ability, Agnes is on the way to becoming one of music’s biggest new names.

Snakes, sharks, spiders, Clay Aiken’s fans. These are four things that strike fear into my heart. Not that there’s anything wrong with any of the three – they simply scare me because I fear that, if crossed, they could easily (and without regret) end my very life.
So, you’ll understand if I – right off the bat – say that I respect Clay Aiken and find him to be a very talented and likable young man. When he guest starred on America’s Next Top Model, it occurred to me that he could carry his own reality show.
And I’d watch.
So, don’t think I’m gunning for him, Claymates. And don’t hit me in the head when I’m not looking. The thing is, I’m like the biggest Adam Lambert fan on the face of the earth, and Clay’s recent comments (while thoughtful and well-articulated….) don’t make me all kinds of happy.
In a recent post on Clay’s blog – one you have to pay to even read (what’s up with that?) – he had the following to say about my dear, talented, beautiful Adam:
“The minute that Adam Lambert was singing ‘Ring of Fire’ … at that moment, (I) thought my ears would bleed. Contrived, awful, and slightly frightening! I wasn’t really a fan and found myself surprised whenever folks told me that they liked him.”
You. Don’t. Say.
Clay went on to say that he feels like Adam Lambert was pushed down viewer’s throats. Did he even see the shoveling job done with David Archuletta last year? Now, that was serious shoveling.
Speak, Clay:
“I think many voters got sick of being “told who to vote for”. I think many were turned off by the blatant favoritism shown towards one contestant. Therefore, on that last night, they used their votes against a contestant that they were tired of hearing about and for the contestant who had been written off. And, at the same time, I think they voted AGAINST an ‘American Idol’ that has, for four years now, been more about the slick productions and polished contestants than it has been about finding the raw talent that it did in its first three seasons.”
Okay. Okay. When it’s week one of the competition and one or two judges announce, “We’ll see you in the finale…” it’s unsettling. Honestly, I don’t like when they seem to clear the path for one contestant either. I didn’t like it when they did it with Carrie Underwood, David Archuletta, Fantasia, or Melinda. It’s a turn off for one thing – but for another, it simply isn’t fair. But the reason I think it isn’t fair is different than you might suspect.
I don’t think it’s fair to their chosen performer. Only two that they’ve taken this approach with have actually gone on to win.
Think about it – it sets them up each and every week. They’re looked at under a magnifying glass and, thereby, held to a higher standard than the rest. It gives them added pressure in what’s already a pressure cooker.
But I understand where the judges are coming from. HELLO! They don’t want another tragedy like Taylor Hicks. They have a great deal of pride in their competition and want its winners to be deserving. Each winner represents the show, the brand, and to an extent them. Of course they want the best standing at the end.
As humans who are passionate about what they do, it’s probably hard not to get completely worked up. If I had a wish, however, it would be that they would not even mention “finale” until there are only a handful of contestants left. Imagine how it makes the rest feel.
Personally, I think two of the best were the last two standing. As much as I adore Adam, I think Kris Allen fought hard to win and deserves everything he gets. Not MORE than Adam, mind you, but as much. The guy is wonderfully talented – he plays instruments, sings his butt off, and seems like a very cool person. Adam seems to adore him and they have a great friendship going on. I heard Kris singing No Boundaries on the radio yesterday and he sounded incredible. It’s my favorite first song by a winner.
I can’t wait to hear it again. I also can’t wait to hear what Adam puts out. Do you know how fun it’ll be watching Adam Lambert bring “theatrical” back to music?! KISS, David Bowie, Queen, Cher, Madonna.. he’ll be keeping something very special alive, and he’s just the guy to do it.
The only thing that really bothers me about American Idol any more is some of the fan bases. They get unbelievably mean toward other contestants. This year alone found some scumbags lashing out at Danny Gokey because he’d recently lost his wife. The immature twits suggested he was going for the sympathy vote. That’s right, guys, it was the ultimate set up and his wife was a real trooper. Snap out of it!
If your favorite deserves to be there, let them prove it on the stage. If you think you need to harass other contestants or fan bases, apparently you don’t have much faith in them. You’d be better off picking a new contestant.
One local disc jokey even made a snarky comment about a time, later in the season, when Danny wasn’t wearing his wedding ring. I e-mailed the station to complain, but when you’re fighting against a lack of class, it’s a tough battle. The classless aren’t smart enough to realize just how uncool they are.
Anyway, Clay Aiken finished off with what I thought were just odd words. Odd – that’s all.
“I feel that Ruben and I were fairly matched. We both had our detractors and negatives, but I feel we were both very worthy of being on that stage in that moment, and either of us would have been worthy of winning. The show was different then, and folks made it in seasons 1-3 because they were “real” people who happened to sing/entertain well. But, somewhere along the way, ‘AI’ stopped being about real people.”
I guess this would be me signing off to spend the rest of the weekend wondering how Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, David Cook, David Archuletta, Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Katharine Mcphee, Taylor Hicks, and Blake Lewis aren’t real. How could I not have noticed?
Oh, btw, I don’t pay to read Clay Aiken’s thoughts. Someone copy and pasted the information. It has actually shown up several places online. The word is spreading fast – and I can just picture the Claymates (his extremely loyal and devoted fanbase cleverly calls themselves Claymates) getting on their war gear… determined looks on their faces ready to fight to for their guy!
Please don’t let me be in their line of fire… Please don’t let me be in their line of fire…. Please don’t let me be in their line of fire…Please don’t let me be in their line of fire…

You know what, I still consider myself a fan of Jessica Simpson’s. When the girl remembers her lyrics, her voice is absolutely phenomenal. I also thought she was adorable in The Dukes of Hazard movie – but wish to God it had been the only movie she ever attempted.
I just don’t know what went wrong. Did she try to do too many different things? Is she trying too hard? Is she not trying hard enough? Is the scrutiny and pressure too much?
No answers. Just questions.
I do have an idea though: Dancing With the Stars. She has such a great personality and is so lovable that this show would be the ideal format to allow America to fall in love with her all over again.
Take Lil’ Kim for example. I never knew she had such an INCREDIBLE personality. This girl is an absolute sweetheart and is full of energy, vitality and life. She was so much fun to watch on DWTS this season and brought so much to the show. In fact, she’s only been gone (wrongly at that!) for one week and the show just isn’t the same.
When I hear the name Lil’ Kim now, I don’t think of her crazy outfits or any of the drama, I think of a very pretty girl who’s personality is 25 times bigger than her frame.
I think a bout on Dancing With the Stars would work the same magic for Jessica.
The pictures in this post are from Jessica’s performance on May 9 in San Antonio. She. Forgot. Her. Lyrics. Again. Sigh. Her fans are still pulling for her… but we’re kind of running out of rope. Come on, Jessica, get it together!

Hopefully Rihanna is moving forward and Chris Brown will become smaller and smaller in her rearview mirror.
According to Web reports, the beautiful singer shared a dinner with L.A. Lakers’ center Andrew Bynum at a Beverly Hills steakhouse last weekend. Although Chris Brown has been spotted with at least one other date since he beat Rihanna, this is the first time she has been seen with another man.
Brown has been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats after he punched, bit and choked Rihanna until she was unconscious in his car on Feb. 8. He pleaded not guilty, but the pictures tell a different story.
Unfortunately, as much as Rihanna’s fans want to see her away from Chris Brown, other reports suggest they are getting back together. I guess time will tell.

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND RELEASE FREE DOWNLOAD OF NEW SINGLE FOR ONE WEEK ONLY STARTING TODAY, RELEASE TRAILER FOR UPCOMING ALBUM
Through a “tweet” on Twitter.com today, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND announced they are giving away their new single, “Funny the Way It Is,” as a free download for one week. Dave (@davejmatthews) and bassist Stefan Lessard (@slessard) are both very active on Twitter, keeping touch with their huge fanbase and decided it was the perfect place to get the word out. The song comes off their upcoming album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, which hits stores on June 2nd. It will be the band’s first studio album since the death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore last summer. The “GrooGrux King” in the album title refers to Moore’s nickname within the group. Matthews created all of the artwork for Big Whiskey, including the richly detailed cover illustration that puts a GrooGrux spin on New Orleans’ traditional Mardi Gras parades while evoking the joy and the sorrow expressed in the album’s songs. Matthews has designed logos and other elements in the past, but this is the first time he has created the entire packaging for a Dave Matthews Band album.
Guitarist Tim Reynolds will play on the album, making it his first recording with DMB since 1998’s Before These Crowded Streets. The album was produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Goo Goo Dolls). Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King will also feature the recording debuts of Rashawn Ross who joined the band in 1996 but hadn’t played on any of their studio releases yet and Moore’s replacement, saxophonist Jeff Coffin who also is a member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. DMB just released a trailer for the new album which can be seen below.
Dave Matthews Band kicks off its 2009 tour tonight with a show at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be on the road through October 2nd. Please visit http://www.davematthewsband.com for a full itinerary of the band’s spring and summer tours – and also check the website for the launch of the Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King pre-order later this week. Fans who pre-order the CD at the band’s website will receive the group’s upcoming live album, Live Trax 15, for free. Live Trax 15 captures the group’s August 9th, 2008 show at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI, one of the most fan-requested shows for release from last year’s summer tour.

Okay, so Megan acted a fool and, frankly, I’m glad she’s gone. The whole bird walk thing was blissfully stupid, but the way she acted when Ryan was about to read the news was disrespectful and petty.
Do you know what’s a cross between frustrating and sad – hovering somewhere around pathetic? The fact that A LOT of other idol hopefuls (more deserving, more talented, would have taken the competition more seriously, etc) lost the slot that went to her.
If I were them, I’d be miffed. Heck, I’m miffed and I’m not even them.
My favorite part of the video is toward the end, when the contestants “mock” one another, all in fun of course. The rest of them are a cool group who honestly seem thrilled and honored to be on the show.

Italian rockers Lacuna Coil have just released their video for “Spellbound.” The Saku-directed clip was filmed at the Dolce & Gabbana Gold restaurant in Milan, Italy which reflects lead singer Cristina Scabbia’s passion for fashion and cooking. In the same vein as Evanescence and Flyleaf, Lacuna Coil boasts powerful female vocals against a backdrop of haunting melodies and catchy guitar riffs.
“Spellbound” comes off Lacuna Coil’s new album, Shallow Life, which hits stores on April 21st. The band’s fifth studio album was recorded with acclaimed producer Don Gilmore (Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam) at the famed NRG Studios in Los Angeles.
