Lady Antebellum

Dr. Pepper has been a long-time friend of mine.  I fell in love with Dr. Pepper and started drinking it (by the gallons)  in Jr. High School.   When I got a little older and decided the calories weren’t on my side anymore, I switched to Diet Dr. Pepper and it has been my constant companion for years. A bottle or glass is never too far away.

Now, Dr. Pepper is making me prouder than ever that I’ve supported them for so many years.  They’ve used some of my favorite artists in their commercials (KISS, Fergie…) and now they’re teaming with Lady Antebellum for something pretty special.

Read on for the details. As for me, it’s high time for a Diet Dr. Pepper.

Dr Pepper Continues its Support of the Academy of Country Music

Dr Pepper has partnered with hit country music group Lady Antebellum to give one lucky fan an unrivaled experience at the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM Awards) in Las Vegas this April. The winner and a guest will receive a complete country music weekend with tickets to the awards show, passes to the post-awards ACM All-Star Jam and entry to a special Dr Pepper private concert with Lady Antebellum. Now through March 17, fans can enter online at DrPepper.com for their chance to win.

“We look forward to another great year of country music with the Academy and the award-winning group, Lady Antebellum,” said Dave Fleming, director of marketing for Dr Pepper. “Country music and Dr Pepper enjoy a tremendously loyal fan base, and we are excited to bring this unique access to one lucky fan.”

Dr Pepper has supported the Academy of Country Music for more than a decade, and this year has partnered with chart-topping recording group, Lady Antebellum. The group will perform at the Dr Pepper private concert, and will be featured on product packaging, in-store displays and the DrPepper.com website.

“We look forward to ACM Awards every year because country music fans take over Vegas for the entire weekend,” said Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum. “Dr Pepper will give a lucky fan the ultimate prize – a chance to experience the ACM Awards from behind-the-scenes.”

Log on to DrPepper.com for full contest rules. No purchase is necessary. Entries must be received by March 17, 2011 to be eligible. The 46th Academy of Country Music Awards show airs on April 3, 2011 on CBS.

The SERIOUSLY:  After the years these ladies had?!  You seriously snub them? Seriously? : Miranda Lambert and Katy Perry… two of the main reasons to turn your radio on!  Oh well, that’s the beauty of award shows – you’re left feeling happy for the winners, even if you wonder WHY some are on stage instead of others.

Still wondering about some of these….  a few times I got confused, Is this the AMAs or Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice awards?

It seems like everyone (most certainly including me) loves Lady Antebellum – country music fans, pop music fans. If you have any taste whatsoever in great music, liking Lady Antebellum is a given.

Below is an AOL Session of Lady Antebellum performing their monster hit Need You Now. Outstanding!

Just how big is the amazing Lady Gaga?  According to the website Mashable, which works with the video analytics company Visible Measures to track web-video viewing each month, the Lady has become the first artist to garner 1 billion total video views worldwide. Of the 65 music videos that have attracted 100 million or more views, Gaga has three: “Poker Face” (374.6 million views), “Bad Romance” (360.0 million views) and “Just Dance” (272.9 million views).

Get this:  These numbers don’t even include her latest controversial hit “Telephone.”

I’ve raved it before, I’ll rave it again.  Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum, and Zac Brown all came along at the perfect time. The radio was beginning to even bore itself before they came along…. and goodness knows videos were on snooze patrol.

Strike a Chord would love to wish Lady Gaga a belated happy birthday – she was 24 yesterday!

The Academy of Country Music announced the nominees for the April 18th ceremony. My much, much, much, much beloved Lady Antebellum is up for seven awards – the most of any nominees, thank you so very much. Lady Antebellum was followed by Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood who have 6 nominations each. Taylor Swift is up for 5.  I’m not sure how the Zac Brown band can’t be up for at least as many but they may just fall into the same area Montgomery Gentry and Trace Adkins always have – the fans love them to distraction and back, but the ACMAs aren’t entirely sure what to make of them.  I’d walk across glass then go back and eat every piece to see any of them perform.

The entire list of nominees is below – I’ve colored my favorites red because… well, I can.  I have a few ties that I just couldn’t decide between.  Let me know in the comments who your favorites are.

Vocal Event:

Hillbilly Bone – Blake Shelton featuring Trace Adkins • Honky Tonk Stomp – Brooks & Dunn featuring Billy Gibbons • I Told You So – Carrie Underwood featuring Randy Travis • I’m Alive – Kenny Chesney with Dave Matthews • Seeing Stars – Jack Ingram featuring Patty Griffin

I seriously try to keep things positive – I have an inner Mary Poppins, you know. But, I have to just ask – how in the world did You Belong with Me find itself in the nominations? It’s not Taylor’s best and it certainly isn’t Country Music’s best.  Oh, well, I don’t want to end on a negative note, so I’ll just say how proud I am of the ACMAs for recognizing Lady Antebellum, The Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert, and Hillbilly Bone.

I also want to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to Joey + Rory!  As much as I love Montgomery Gentry, I wouldn’t be upset at all if they won the category.  Of course… come on…. we all know who will.  Not only do the ACMAs love, love, love Brooks  &  Dunn, they’re more likely than ever to give them the award since they announced that they’re breaking up.

Congrats to all of the nominees – just about all of them are very well-deserved.  A few categories (like to new solo vocalist for example) could, literally, go any way.  It’s been an outstanding year in Country Music!
