Billy Currington’s Childhood Demons

In an interview with People magazine, country superstar Billy Currington said that he’s taking the rest of the year off to continue treatment for issues stemming from nearly a dozen years of physical abuse as a child.
Billy says he returned to Nashville (on July 26) after a 30-day stay at a trauma recovery program in Arizona. He has canceled 83 shows and will leave for Hawaii on August 26 to work with two therapists specializing in childhood trauma.
Apparently his first stepfather, the one Billy wrote about in “Walk a Little Straighter,” physically abused him for years, including knocking him unconscious when he was 10! I won’t even say what I’d like to have seen happen to that idiot. But it rhymes with having the skit beaten out of him.
Billy’s trauma began showing itself when he got into fights in grade school. “When you are taught to hate, you carry that with you,” he says. “Even today, I call myself 98 percent laid-back, but 2 percent is Little Billy, my inner child that’s hurt, sad and furious because he was never taken care of.
“My childhood did not turn me into an alcoholic or a drug addict; my challenge in life is my anger,” Billy says. “I’d be Little Billy for two seconds, yelling and blowing up. And in those instances, that rage can destroy relationships, whether it’s with a girlfriend or a business partner or a fan.”
Very, very best of wishes for Billy and his recovery - he’s seeking out help, so our money’s on him beating the demons and sending them back to hell where they belong.

Tim McGraw’s an Observant MoFo
At a concert recently, Tim McGraw lost his ring while shaking hands with fans in the front row. When you watch the little video above, look closely - there’s a lady in a blue shirt who accidentally pulls his ring off while shaking his hand. Instead of pocketing it while visions of eBay danced in her head, she tries to get his attention by waving it around like a winning lottery ticket.
But good ole boy Tim doesn’t notice. Nah. He’s way too busy accusing another woman of stealing it.
I’ve always liked his music…at least I did before it became manic depressive….but he makes a total ass of himself here. I wonder if we could make a trade with Switzerland - Faith and Tim in exchange for Shania and Mutt.

Unfortunately, I haven’t heard anything about it, but I’d LOVE for American Idol to have Bucky on next season. Fans love it when favorites are brought back to sing and Bucky’s definitely a fan favorite!

CMA Music Festival Fan Fair 2007
From e-mails and comments, I know some of y’all are as into country music as I am - so I thought you might appreciate more Country Music flavored posts. I like to represent a lot of different genres of music on the blog and one of the main reasons is I listen to every conceivable genre, myself. I can’t imagine EVER getting locked into just one…not when there are so many great artists spread across the board.
Variety is the spice of life and music’s one of those areas where the more spice you have, the yummier it is!
The pics below are from CMA Music Festival Fan Fair 2007 . Click each miniscule t-nail to see the larger pic.

Blake Lewis News and Website

I’m walking on clouds since the American Idol Finale. Since the beginning - Blake and Jordin were two of my favorites, along with Stephanie and Brandon (hopefully a crackshot record producer out there sees what I saw in those two). I’d have been thrilled to see Blake OR Jordin win, but I kind of thought AI would prefer a female this time (and, pretty much, what AI prefers tends to happen). At least this time, their wishes make sense - Jordin’s amazing.
Blake and Jordin are both doing well on iTunes. Blake is number 4 on the charts with “You Give Love a Bad Name,” while Jordin Sparks, with the winner’s single, “This is My Now,” is one step behind him at number 5. I’m surprised that Phil, Melinda, and Chris Richardson don’t have songs near the top, too. I could listen to all of them all day long. Can you imagine how amazing the AI cd’s going to be?
Blake has a hot new fansite, Oh Blake.Com (I Oh so love that name!). According to the site, it’s a temporary version, with the Full version dropping soon. But it looks pretty fantastic as is, if you ask me. The same webmistress has a Chris Richardson website in the works - I should be able to announce it any day now.
On the Oh Blake website, be sure to read the news items - very interesting stuff! The Gallery is in the works, but they already have up an Icon section.
This group of Idols will be a lot of fun to follow. You KNOW Jordin, Blake, Chris, Phil, and Melinda are going far. I think Phil will get a contract and will blow up the country charts. He has an amazing, amazing voice and is one of the most likable idols ever. Talent and likability get you far in country music.
I aslo have my fingers crossed for beautiful Stephanie. She’s as talented as anyone I’ve ever heard on Idol. She just got, somehow, lost in the crowd of amazing female talent. It happened to Gina, too, but she’s another one I hope will come out on top. And, Brandon, of course. They could all surprise a lot of people, kind of like my guy Bucky’s doing!

Bucky Covington News and Quotes

One of the most genuine, likable, and purely talented idols ever (and certainly a favorite of mine) Bucky Covington has been in the news quite a bit lately. First of all, the release of his self-titled debut album will be out April 17. It’s a country cd and I think he’ll have a great deal of success in the genre - especially if he has the right music. Hopefully, he’ll do a great deal of Southern Rock. Not only is it what he does best, we need more of it on the radio.
If his personal life factors into his music, though, we may be in for some ballads. Bucky and his wife Crystal have split. He recently spoke about his marriage ending in an interview with People. He said they saw it coming.: “For the past two years we saw it coming. We stopped getting along and then you find yourself working on your relationship more than enjoying it.”
When asked what was on the album: “A good mix of country ballads, straight country and turn-it-up rock-country. One of my songs, “I’ll Walk,” brings the tears out of me. It’s about a girl who gets hit by a car, ends up in a wheelchair and when she’s about to get married she looks up at her father and says, “I’ll walk” down the aisle. There’s another song, “Back When We Were Gods,” about when you’re young and living in the moment.”
When asked what he most remembers about his Idol experience: “When I did ‘Superstition’ by Stevie Wonder, and Simon told me he liked my performance but that I had Jessica Simpson hair. The hairdressers asked me what I wanted. I just grown my hair, so I told them to knock it out. And they did – my hair was huge! So I’m walking around and asking the contestants, ‘Does this look a little much?’ And they’re all like, ‘No, it’s looks good.’ But they’re contestants, so that’s what they’re going to say!”
When asked if he keeps in contact with any of the other idols: “I’m friends with Kellie Pickler and Chris Daughtry. They’ve got the greatest sense of humor. Since the show we just hit it off. In my thank yous on my album I thank them individually.” (Chris also named Bucky in his Thanks on his amazing cd, Daughtry.)
And, finally, when asked about his favorite memory of Simon: “I walked outside one time and saw Simon get into this beautiful black Ferrari – we all know Simon is loaded. He gets into his car and you hear ‘Vrooooom.’ He burnt the clutch out of it. He cannot drive a five speed worth a flip! I, personally, am a fan of Simon, but with all that money get an automatic!”
Bucky, you’re my kind of people, dude.
Dont’ forget - on April 17th, everyone buy his cd. I’d LOVE for him to outsell Taylor Hicks!
