Beyonce

EDIT: As if there aren’t more serious evils to fight in the world, someone has removed this particular video from YouTube. Petty, much. Anyway, it’s a cool video. My only problem is the guns – since when are guns anywhere near sexy or glamorous. Guns kill. Not sexy.

Good Lord, Beyonce – why you wanna go and look like that?!?! My day’s off to a rotten start – I’m sitting at the computer, minding my own business – throwing chocolate candy in my mouth and thinking all’s right with the world. Then, with a piece of candy halfway to my mouth, I begin to watch the video below. I’m now hauling my butt to the floor to do, like, I dunno 75,000,000,000 crunches…. 45,000,000,000 lunges…. After burying the candy in the yard.

You’re going to love this official music video for Beyonce’s Video Phone featuring Lady Gaga. Just don’t consume any calories before watching these girls. You’ll flat hate yourself.

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson can’t catch a break when it comes to the people around her. Now the popular, talented, and out-spoken star is set to catch flack for something that wasn’t remotely her fault.

Her producer double dipped his backing track, without Kelly’s knowledge. Not only did he use it for Kelly’s ‘Already Gone,’ he also gave it to Beyonce for ‘Halo.’

Kelly knew that she’d possibly be perceived as a rip off artist, so she tried to keep her track off the radio. The song was released, though – despite her wishes.

Kelly Clarkson said she confronted her co-writer Ryan Tedder on the phone as soon as she heard ‘Halo’ on the radio. She was told that it was too late to make any changes to her record.

“No one’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.’ No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off,” she told Canada’s CBC radio (via NY Post.)

RCA also decided to release the single ‘Almost Gone’ to radio stations as Kelly’s third single – although Kelly fought against it.

“I fought and fought,” she said. “In the end, they’re releasing it without my consent. It sucks, but it’s one of those things I have no control over. I already made my album. At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with it. It’s kind of a sh- – -y situation, but . . . you know, you learn,” Clarkson added.

Taylor Swift - Fearless

For the third week in a row, Fearless by Taylor Swift is Number 1 on Billboard’s album chart with 330,000 in sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In second place is A Different Me by Keyshia Cole. “A Different Me” sold 322,000 in its first week!

Jamie Foxx’s Intuition reached No. 3 with 265,000, (impressive) while Fall Out Boy’s newFolie A Deux debuted at No. 8 with 150,000.

Each of these are supposedly amazing albums. The only one I’ve listened to, so far, is Taylor’s – and it is, front to back, all it’s cracked up to be.

I’m going to pick up Keyshia’s today and I’ll grab Jamie’s and F.O.B.’s next week. I’ll let you know how great they are. I know they will be!

Elsewhere on Billboard’s chart, Britney Spears’s Circus, surprisingly, dropped two spots to No. 4 with 196,000 sales. It’s some of Britney’s best work yet. Unusual You, My Baby, Womanizer, and Circus are addictively good.

Beyoncé’s I Am…Sasha Fierce (Deluxe Edition) sits at No. 5 with 195,000 and Nickelback’s Dark Horse is at No. 6 with 194,000.

My only beef with this list is, where in the world’s Kanye? Please, a top 10 without Kanye West isn’t a legit top 10 – it’s a… well, it’s a top 10 with 1 shmuck or shmuckette who jumped in his spot.

Beyonce, Aretha Franklin, and Daddy Knowles

by Joi on February 17, 2008

You’ve probably heard about the squabble between Aretha Franklin and Team Beyonce. The queen of soul took offense to Beyoncé’s calling Tina Turner “the queen” during the duo’s Grammy performance. When Beyonce was on stage and said, “The Queen…” I have to admit, I expected Aretha to come out on stage – not Tina Turner. (Aretha’s the Queen of Soul, after all!)

Aretha Franklin promply issued a statement letting Beyonce know that SHE was the Queen, not anyone else.

THEN, Mathew Knowles (Beyonce’s dad, of course), snapped back at Aretha Franklin in defense of his daughter.

“Something this ridiculous – it’s childish, it’s unprofessional,” he said in a statement Thursday. “And it’s a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess.”

Now things just got more insulting for the Queen.

In a letter to Aretha Franklin, PETA spokesperson Dan Matthews writes:

“Music lovers may think of you as a ‘queen,’ but to animal lovers, you are a court jester . Why not shed the old-fashioned look that adds pounds to your frame and detracts from your beautiful voice? Please consider donating your furs to the homeless as ‘queen of compassion,’ Mariah Carey, did. You’ll get a tax credit for the donation, and we at PETA will all sing your praises.”

Ouch.

I’m mean, sure, the fur should go – we all know that. But hasn’t the lady earned a little more R.E.S.P.E.C.T. than that?

Last night’s Grammy’s were actually really good. Most award shows fall flat, but whoever put last night’s show together did a great job. The diversity was the best thing. There was pretty much something for everyone. Kanye’s songs, Amy Winehouse’s performances, the Beatle’s salute, and Beyonce/Tina Turner were my personal favorites.

Can you believe Herbie Hancock won album of the year? He basically pulled it right out from under a Kanye and Amy Winehouse tie, which is what I was pretty much demanding.

If you haven’t bought these two artist’s latest cds, do it now. Not only are they amazing works, they’re sure to become legendary as two of the greatest albums ever made. I’ve always been a huge, huge fan of Kanye’s and I’ve recently become a really big fan of Amy’s as well. Some people may not like everything they do (Amy) or say (Kanye) – but no one can ignore them or deny their talent.

Sure, Kanye loves himself some Kanye – but, personally I think that makes him who he is. The greatest entertainers and athletes in the world believe themselves to be. It all starts between the ears, first, you know. Believe it….then become it.

He’s outspoken, that’s a given, but if you listen to him – he makes a great deal of sense. The man’s incredibly smart and, in spite of how he may come across at times, he has a great deal of love and compassion in his heart.

That was certainly apparent in his tribute to his mom last night. It was beautiful and I cried right through every word of the song. I’m sure it took a lot of strength for him to get through it – ironically, strength that he got from his much beloved mother.

I was so glad they stopped the music during his acceptance speech when he started talking about his mother. I loved that he wasn’t about to let a little tacky elevator music stop him from what he wanted to say!

Amy Winehouse, of course, turns many people off with her personal life. But, that’s the thing – it’s her personal life. It shouldn’t affect how people perceive her as an artist. She has personal problems and demons that she has to wrestle. Hopefully she has a strong support system and people who love her and want to help her get well.

If she gets the help she needs, she’ll be one of the greatest, most entertaining artists ever. When she performs, she’s one of those artists you can’t take your eyes off of. Kind of like Cher, Tina Turner, and Cyndi Lauper – all rolled into one. She’s in my prayers. Can you imagine – having the love of your life (her Blake) sent away to jail? She seems positively lost without him.

I just hope there’s a happy ending for both of them.

Beyonce Pictures from the AMA’s

by Joi on November 19, 2007

Beautiful Beyonce was awarded the International Star of the Year award at the recent American Music Awards – one of the few awards of the evening that Carrie Underwood or Daughtry didn’t win! (I was so happy for Carrie and Chris – very well deserved recognition.)

I do wish Beyonce had performed Irreplacable by herself – as in, without Sugarland anywhere near the stage. I love Sugarland and all – but…uh, yeah. Odd combination of artists, in my opinion. I’d have much rather seen Sugarland sing their beautiful new song, Stay. If you’ve never heard it – search it out. It’s amazing.
