Rihanna Performs at MTV Mobile Bang Concert in Milan, Italy, July 15

by staff on July 17, 2008

Rihanna performs at MTV Mobile Bang Concert in Milan, Italy  Rihanna was in concert in Milan, Italy on the 15th.  Word is that, as always, she put on a ridiculously hot show.

She’s always gotten comparisons to Beyonce and Janet Jackson, but it’s apparent that (with all due respect to both of those equally talented performers) she’s very much her own person.  Her style and originality are purely her own.

Love this outfit!

Skechers Signs American Idol Winner David Cook as Their New Spokeperson

by staff on July 12, 2008

David Cook

Skechers has signed American Idol winner David Cook to endorse the brand globally. Smart move, I’d say. He’s nearly as popular as Daughtry right now and should have the sort of success Chris Daughtry has found.

Like Carrie, David will prove to be a perfect spokesperson. They’re both hugely popular, likable, mega-talented and can bring in droves of fans. Also, unlike Taylor Hicks, they won’t prove to be jokes played on the AI audience by the AI audience.

Don’t you know American Idol would love to purge him from the list of winners?

I’m surprised Jordin Sparks hasn’t gotten any endorsement deals. She would be a perfect make-up model, or a spokesmodel for Candie’s. She’s a ridiculously beautiful girl. She’s also very sweet, likable, and friendly.

Leona Lewis Vows Not to Become Another Amy Winehouse

by staff on July 12, 2008

Leona LewisNot that it would seem like a possible scenario anyway, Leona Lewis has vowed that she will not become another Amy Winehouse (24). The beautiful British singer and songwriter admitted that she admires Amy’s musical talents, but would definitely avoid the path she has taken. Wise, that. According to Leona (23), having a strong and supportive family is one way of helping her keep her feet on the ground.

“Amy is so talented. But a performer’s privacy is taken away. The media are always there,” Daily Star quoted her as saying. “You can’t make your mistakes in private. I have the advantage of a great support structure. I get honest opinions from family and friends. They aren’t always telling me what I want to hear, but the truth helps keep my head straight,” she said

Leona told Parade Magazine that she (understandably) is honored to be compared to legendary divas Whitney Houston (44) and Mariah Carey (38). “It’s exceedingly gratifying because they’re so great,” she added.

Katy Perry: The Next Big Thing?

by staff on July 7, 2008

Katy Perry

Unless you’ve been living in a cave or on a Country Music station, you’ve heard Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl.”   When I first heard the song, I thought it was Amy Winehouse.  But I’d heard all of her stuff and knew she’d never done a song about kissing a girl. Besides, a few lines into the song I realized it wasn’t Amy.

I listened to the end for the DJ to give me the name, but all he said was, “This girl’s getting a lot of comparisons to Amy Winehouse!”  Then he went into details about the weather.

Thanks, guy.

When I got home, I jumped on GOOGLE and soon found out what I needed to know.  That was a few weeks ago and, of course, by now everyone knows Katy.

On his website, Perez Hilton wrote: “If Avril Lavigne were actually talented, pretty, and had an appealing personality, she’d be Katy Perry. She’s got the whole package!”   Ouch.

Katy has said, “I don’t care who I’m compared to as long as people listen to the music.  Usually I find it funny to say I’m like a skinnier version of Lily Allen and a fatter version of Amy Winehouse. It always renders a good chuckle.”

Katy’s gaining a monstrous following - it’ll be interesting to see where this all goes.  She very well be the next big thing.
