American Idol’s Popularity

by staff on May 23, 2006

The Next Idol?!

There’s a great article on MSN about American Idol - the best thing about it is all the mentions of Chris Daughtry.

He should be singing tonight!!! My perfect final four would’ve been Chris, Ace, Bucky, and Kat. I’m, like, one for four.

Oh well, spilled milk and all that.

Here’s the linkage: It’s an American Idol World

Best of luck to Kat!

P.S. By the by, if you were one of the gazillions of people who visited Steph’s Katharine McPhee site - all the insane traffic crashed the little server!!! So, she’s been down a bit. But we’ve forked over the money for a big bad boy server and she’ll be back up right away - hopefully today. Keep checking until you find her up and runnint - and this time for good!

Axl Rose in a Slap-Down with the King of Designs

by staff on May 21, 2006

The silliness of this one kind of made me smile and breath a relieved sigh (just glad it was a news item NOT involving Britney’s skills as a mom).

Okay, Axl Rose (44) and Tommy Hilfiger (55) were out Thursday evening at a new club called The Plumm in Manhattan. Rose was there to sing as a surprise for actress Rosario Dawson - for her 27th birthday party.

Axl apparently moved the drink of Hilfiger’s girlfriend. The designer of my dreams then slaps Axl’s arm. Then did so again…and maybe again. Must have been a freakishly important drink.

“I moved his girlfriend’s drink so it wouldn’t spill. It was the most surreal thing, I think, that’s ever happened to me in my life.” -Axl

Rose did perform. He even dedicated a song to Hilfiger, stating it was for “…my good friend Tommy Hilfiger.” It wasn’t a warm and fuzzy moment, though, considering the songs title was, “You’re Crazy.”

Beautiful Katharine McPhee Pictures

Here are a few recent pics of Kat. I’m SO glad she made it into the finals. This girl’s amazing - and beautiful. It’s easy to forget that she’s just 21 years old…. So much talent for such a young girl!

Be sure to check out Steph’s amazing site for Katharine McPhee! I actually remember when Steph first saw her during the auditions - her first words, before she even sang were, “She’s gorgeous!” Then when Katharine sang, she said “I’m putting up a website for her tonight - I KNOW she’ll make the final 12.” (She did in fact, start the website that very night!)

When she went back and listened to her audition again, she was like, “Final 12, nothing, she might just win this thing!” The might was only in place because of a certain rocker by the name of Chris Daughtry - we all figured it would come down to those two.

It should have. Shhhhhhhh…..

Chris Daughtry’s Future’s Lookin’ Good!

by staff on May 11, 2006

On the Ryan Seacrest show this morning, Ryan talked with Chris Daughtry - great interview. Ryan was telling how shocked he was when he found out that it would be Chris going home. He said that when he got to the studio that day, a producer pulled him into his office and told him. Ryan said the room fell very, very silent - because of the shock of the whole thing.

He also explained why he delivered the news the way he did - he actually did it as a tribute to Chris, to show just how shocking and unreal it all was.

The biggest news, though, is this: Ryan got a call from someone who said that a “Huge” group - one that’s a household name - wants to sign Chris as their lead singer. Ryan wouldn’t give the name because the group wants to make the offer to Chris tonight on Extra! As soon as we find out, we’ll post it here.

And so it all begins!!! Knock ‘em all the way out, Chris.

Chris Daughtry- Huge Star on the Horizon!

by staff on May 11, 2006

I’m still in shock after last night - along with everyone else.

I’m just not 100% sure WHY I’m so shocked. I mean, the best singer never wins this competition. America hasn’t, in my opinion, gotten it right since Kelly. I think the best the show’s ever seen have been Chris, Bo, Ace, Constantine, Mandisa, KatharineJennifer Hudson, and LaToya. Not one of them won, and only one made it to the finals (Hopefully Kat will make it 2).

For one thing, the Vote for the Worst camp has mind numbing numbers of people who vote and vote and vote for the underdog they choose. Taylor has been their most recent poster boy. Last year, they gave Scott and Anthony a long ride - right past Constantine, which is still one of the craziest jokes I’ve ever witnessed.

For another thing, people love underdogs - they’ll pull for the ones with the idiosyncrancies or the sad stories…. People they think have overcome hard knocks. They see someone like Chris, Constantine, or LaToya and think, “They don’t need this competition….they’ll be a star without AI.” , then they’ll call in for the ones they KNOW do need the competition.

Finally, when there’s someone who is so obviously the best - the media knows it, the judges know it, everyone with any sense at all knows it….. people tend to think that this person will “sail through.” I have personally been guilty of that before. One of my faves will have an amazing performance - and instead of calling and calling, I’ll just call a few times then go about doig what I was doing, thinking “(S)he’ll be fine.”

All the while, the other camps - who know they’re up against the best - vote like it’s the only thing they’ve got going. I think that’s why you have the likes of Constantine leaving before Scott, Anthony and Carrie - and Chris leaving way-freaking-too-early. Katharine’s fans KNEW Elvis had pushed her into the flames - they KNEW she depended on them to pull her out of the fire.

We Chris fans never even saw the smoke! And we all got burned.

Joi

P.S. I am happy for Katharine, though - she deserves to be in the finals, and with any luck she will be. She’ll just be with the wrong guy.

Elvis Night on IDOL

by staff on May 10, 2006

Chris! Was! Amazing!

He was absolutely perfect on both of his songs. I love that he stayed “true” to Elvis with “Conversation”.

When we got in the car this morning and turned on the radio, our jaws dropped when we heard Chris belting out “Suspicious Minds”. Right after that, they played “Conversation”. Each performance was awesome, and tied for the best songs we heard on the radio all week.

Our radio station played Katharine’s songs next. I’m a huge fan and she’ll have an astronomical career, but Elvis was kind of brutal to her. Why make a 21 year old girl sing Elvis anyway - as if she’ll ever have to knock out a little King in her careeer.

I thought Elliot did amazingly well - and I loved Taylor’s “Jailhouse Rock”. I thought he oversang “In the Ghetto”, but at this point of the game, who could blame him for going all out. All in all, I thought it was his best night.

And Elliot’s.

Every night is Chris’ best night.

As for beautiful Katharine - her best is yet to come, and I can’t wait to see how huge she gets. She and Chris are going to blow us all the heck away, I just know it.
