Uncool Bordering on Uncooth Kelly Clarkson

by staff on January 19, 2006

I’ve always been a fan of Kelly’s - especially her last song…WOW. But in my opinion, not allowing American Idol contestants to sing her songs is a slap in the face to the show that put her on the map. I don’t think she’d have gotten there without them.

Simon’s response was, “I think that by ignoring the show you’re ignoring the audience who put you there.”" It’s actually something I totally agree with him on. Go figure!

Simon was just getting started. He went on to say, “”No matter how talented Kelly Clarkson is, she would not be in the position she’s in now without winning this show, and forget the way she feels about us or the producers or anybody else, or the terrible songwriters she alleges she was with which sold her millions of records. It’s the public who bothered to pick up the phone to vote for her. If she refuses to give songs to be used on the show, it’s like saying to every person who voted for you, ‘you know what? Thank you. I’m not interested in you anymore. ‘I don’t like this, when they walk away from the show and kind of forget”

Methinks that if it’s an okay thing for the contestants to sing Celine, Whitney, Alicia, Elton and similar superstars - it oughta be okay for them to sing Kelly’s!

American Idol: Season 5

by staff on January 17, 2006

AI 5 kicked off with a bang and a fat lot of fun!

A few of the faves from tonight around our house were Mandisa (belted out Fallin’), Brooke (sang with her sister), and David (the 17 year old crooner), and Zachary (the other 17 year old). Terrell and Derrell had fantastic voices also, as did the second pair of twins - I just didn’t like the whole crooning at Paula thing.

I also adored the girl who said she had sung a Beyonce song - the one another girl picked on. She was freaking adorable!

Can’t wait for tomorrow night - we’ll finally get to hear Chris, the one everyone’s calling “The bald rocker” - for obvious reasons!

American Idol - Season 5 Tensions

by staff on January 17, 2006

According to a Chicago Tribune article, this year’s AI will be a little rougher around the edges. Apparently, tempers flare, tensions rise, and ‘tudes reign supreme. The show is also planning to expand their coverage of the judge’s fights as well.

“Everyone seems to have more attitude,” said executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. “I don’t know how to put this nicely, so you have to bleep me or something. I’ve never seen people willing to `dump’ on other people as much as this crowd.”

In the past, Simon has always said, `You really hate these people, you want to get rid of them.’ And they go, `No, we love each other.’ Well, not this crowd.”

It all sounds very Fox-ish to me. I just hope they don’t go too far and ruin a good thing.

2 Hour American Idol Tonight!

by staff on January 17, 2006

Got your snacks all lined up yet? I feel a trip to the store coming up - you just can’t watch AI without something to shove in your face!

I just hope this year will be as exciting and fun as last year was. Personally, I thought the past two years were pretty close to dull. Bo, Constantine, Nikko, and Anwar (IMO) breathed much-needed life and energy into the whole AI experience. Even Mikalah Gordon, although not terribly gifted vocally, brought a lot of fun, spirit, and energy. Pretty girl, great personality….just hope she never sings again. At least not within my earshot.

Speaking of Constantine, Constantine Online has gotten a new look, and it’s a hot one.

Apparently, some of the names to watch out for this year on AI are: Ace Young, Chris Daughtry, Brooke, and Tora.

Can’t wait!

Blackwell Speaketh…

by staff on January 12, 2006

Say what you want about him, Mr. Blackwell is one funny cat with cajones the size of beach balls. Here are a few of his latest quotes…

About Mariah Carey: “The world applauds your musical emancipation, but please leave that body to our imagination.”

About Lindsay Lohan: “The teen scream defines fashion fright. Looks like she’s age 30 years overnight.”

About Jessica Simpson: “It’s time to sack the stylist and divorce the designer….She resembles a cut-rate Rapunzel slingin’ hash in a Vegas diner.”

Okay, my man was funny on the first two, but then he went and bad mouthed my girl - and after the year she’s had?? I’m not just saying it because she’s one of my fave celebrities, but she has great fashion sense. As for the Rapunzel thing, she wears extensions and they look mah-velous.

Lindsay and Leonardo?

Lovely Lindsay Lohan is being linked romantically with lusty Leonardo DiCaprio. Don’t really consider him lusty, I just wanted another L for the flow of the sentence.

She recently owned up to drug use and an eating disorder. I hope that, if she is with Leonardo he can help her get herself back on track. She’s way too young to crash and burn.
