Walk the Line

November 26, 2005

Have you seen the great new movie, “Walk the Line” yet? I’ve seen it once and am counting the days until I can see it again. Yeah, I liked it that well!

The performances were remarkable - Reese Witherspoon is absolutely adorable in the role of June Carter Cash, and Joaquin Phoenix does an amazing job of portraying Johnny Cash without looking like he’s portraying Johnny Cash. He makes it look effortless.

Reese and Joaquin actually do all the singing in the movie - a fact that blew me right away. They both have very, very good voices. No disrespect intended, whatsoever, but I actually like Reese’s voice better than June’s.

Anyway, it’s a wonderful movie and I highly recommend it.

Elton John and His Respect for Dolly

November 25, 2005

Elton John is a lifelong fan of country music and apparently has endless respect for one of its leading ladies, Dolly Parton. He performed with her at this year’s AMAs.

Recently in an interview (prior to the AMAs) he had the following to say about our American icon from Tennessee:

(When asked if he’d ever performed with Dolly before) “No. It’s a dream come true for me because there are so many legends in country music, but a lot of them are dead. Dolly is very much alive, and I’m a huge fan of hers. To be able to sing and perform with her and to be on the CMAs is exciting for me because as a musician, it’s a part of my music that I love. I love country music, but I’ve never actually participated in anything to do with country music. I did a CMT thing with Ryan Adams, and I really loved that. This is the first time I’ve really been exposed to that country music audience and, to be with Dolly Parton is such a buzz. I’m really excited.”

(When told that she might be the only person dressed more flamboyantly than him.) “Well, it’s going to be a battle. (laughs) It’s going to be so much fun. I get to meet those other people that I haven’t met before who are going to be on the show. I met Brad Paisley the other week, and it was great meeting him. I get to meet another section of people that I really don’t come across because we don’t move in the same circles. I know Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. I’ve done stuff with them. But the rest of them I really don’t know, so I’m so looking forward to coming to New York and meeting all these people.”

Last Night’s AMA Awards

November 23, 2005

If I had to sum up last night’s American Music Awards show, I’d say “Everyone totally humiliated themselves. In a very big way.”

Imagine a night where Lindsay Lohan wasn’t the worst performance. Yeah, that bad. Lindsay looked terrible, the girl has gotten far too skinny - but she looked like Beyonce Knowles compared to Hilary. At least Lindsay tried to sing live. Hil just moved her lips to the hideous sound passing for a song. Who ever told either of these girls that they could sing?

Rascal Flatts - horror show! They may have been even scarier than the Stones, but they didn’t reach the sheer frightfulness of Cyndi Lauper!

Even people who are normally on their game were bad . Keith Urban sounded like he’d be gargling acid, and looked like he’d poured the rest in his hair. Mariah acted….well…..weird. I’ve seen lots of people talking about how large she looked, and how she kept trying to angle the one leg forward to keep from showing her hips full on….but, personally, compared to Hil, Lindsay, and even my beloved Gwen - I thought the woman just looked “healthy,” and healthy’s a good thing. I just thought she acted kind of odd.

Speaking of acting odd, the Eurythmics also performed. Another Fright Sight, but at least she sounded good.

Kenny and Omarion were, IMO, the only good performances all night. Tim, Will and Kelly Rowland (my new girl crush) were gracious and sweet, although Tim seemed mad about something in his first acceptance. Something was steaming under his hat and I’d love to know what it was. Will was his usual brilliant, wonderful, splendid beautiful self. We need to clone the man. Shakira was also cute. Very pretty face.

But Kelly. She was flawlessly flawless and classy and beautiful. The face, the hair, the dress, the voice. Just about every female there should have just followed her lead and tried to copy her game plan.

First in line should be Gretchen. Good Lord, she wears the same dang thing to every show - jeans, that little black top, and her hair hanging the same. I’d love to see her AT LEAST wear a different color little top! Red would be pretty hot with the dark hair…

Anyway, back to Kelly. How could she not be the most searched, downloaded, and worshipped female on the planet? What? Is she too beautiful? Too talented? Too classy? For the love of all that’s right and fair in this world, get out there and Google this goddess, admire her pics, download her music, show her some love.

Okay, everyone except my husband - don’t you do any of that. Well, downloading the music’s okay, and you can take a quick look at the picture below……

Perfect One

…Okay, you’ve looked long enough.

Kevin Federline: Man of the Year???

November 23, 2005

Dude, what the bleep was GQ thinking?! They, like, voted K-Fed one of their Men of the bleeping Year.

For?????? Trying to look like Omarion when he has nothing (N-O-T-H-I-N-G) in common with the man? Omarion has class, I doubt K-Fed could even spell class. With help.

Or maybe it’s because he’s the one person in the world with less talent and purpose than Nicole or Paris combined? At least the two of them are clean!

Actually, I think it’s because they wanted to interview him. They must’ve had an inkling of how bleeping funny it’d be. For once, Brit’s boy may have exceded expectation.s

GQ asked him about his domestic duties, asking him if there’s anything around the house he’s particularly good at.

Kevin: “Pressing the TV buttons. Yeah, dude. That’s like the No. 1 thing.” (Could’ve guessed that.)

They asked if he ever surprises Brit with flowers.

Kevin: “Oh yeah, I’ll call up the [bleeping] florist before I get a hotel room for us and have them stock it with flowers and a card saying something. You’ve got to keep it interesting, man.”

Kevin: (On a roll) “Oh yeah, I’ll hold her purse. It’s one of those things, you know? I’ve bought the Tampax, the baby diapers, I’ve been through all of that already.”

“The comfort level around here? It’s family, man. It’s like what you do with your brother or your sister or, you know, your moms or pops. I mean, you never cared when you were a kid.”

Asked why he was selected as one of their Men of the Year, “Because I’m Daddy, dude. I’m Daddy. [Bleep], that’s pretty much it.”

What a dope.

What a Girl REALLY Wants!

November 20, 2005

US Weekly has reported that Christina Aguilera and music executive Jordan Bratman got married Saturday night in northern California’s Napa Valley.

Sources said that Christina had her hair decorated in jewels and pulled back in a bun topped by white flowers and wore a Christian Lacroix gown. As soon as we find pictures, we’ll post them. Betting she was absolutely beautiful

From the ap:

Bratman, 28, proposed to Aguilera in February while on vacation in Carmel, California.

Their hotel room was filled with rose petals, balloons and gift boxes.

“When I got to the last box, there was a ring in it,” Aguilera told People magazine. “He got down on one knee and said ‘Will you do me the honor of being my wife?’ I’ve been floating ever since.”

Wishing them all the happiness that they can handle!

Shania and Faith!

November 18, 2005

Okay, time for preferential treatment. My gals get the finale!

Faith and Tim’s duet was beautiful. She sounded as perfectly amazing as ever. I could listen to the lady 24/7 and never get tired of it. Shania, unfortunately didn’t sing, but she looked dang good!

I wish she’d sang in place of Julie…or Martina…or Dolly….or Sugarland….or Bon Jovi….or…

Carrie Killed ‘em All!

November 18, 2005

The biggest surprise of the evening was just how amazing Carrie looked and sounded. She honestly put the other ladies of country on notice - they’d better start bringing it or she’ll trample them! She looked more glamorous and beautiful than just about anyone there and sounded, in my opinion, better than 98% of them.

I was very proud of her - she was one of the brightest stars of the evening, right up there with Faith Hill and Brooks & Dunn. Amazing company! The girl’s gonna be huge.

Blue County, Martina, Faith…

November 16, 2005

A couple of random pics from the CMAs…

Blue County and Jamie ONeal

Martina - she normally brings the house down, but I thought she hovered around average…

Julie didn’t even do as well as Martina…I thought she sounded terrible. Maybe she’s one of those singers who needn’t ever leave the recording studio.

My boy Dierks won the Horizon award. GREAT choice!
