The Piano Pages: Beethoven Biography
Ludwig van Beethoven in Bonn, Germany, in 1770. He had a difficult childhood due to his father's alcoholism and strict discipline.
Beethoven spent most of his life in Vienna, Austria. Just as he was beginning to gain success in Austria, he lost his hearing. His compositions did not suffer from loss of hearing, and in fact seemed to grow in power.
He never married and seemed to have an unhappy personal life, partly because of his many health problems.
Ludwig van Beethoven contracted pnuemonia in December in December 1826, and he died in Vienna on March 26, 1827. 10,000 people were said to attend his funeral.
